Men's Soccer Drops Season Finale to Millersville, 2-1, Saturday Afternoon

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg men's soccer team dropped its season-finale to Millersville University, 2-1, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies wrap up the season with a 9-9 over record and a 6-7 slate in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East while Marauders move to 12-5 for the year and 8-4 in conference play.

After a nearly scoreless first half, Millersville struck first with a goal in the 39th minute to take the 1-0 lead. Senior keeper Nathan Slotnick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) faced nine shots, six on goal, in the first 45 minutes and collected five saves. The senior finished the game with eight total stops for the Huskies.

Coming out of halftime, the Huskies put pressure on the Millersville back line and took three corner kicks in the first 20 minutes. After their third corner of the half, the Huskies kept the ball in their offensive third and freshman Patrick Walsh (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) got his foot on the ball to slot it into the low corner and tie the game at 1-1.

The game appeared to be heading into overtime as neither team could grab the advantage before Richy Valverde scored the eventual game-winner with just 4:40 to play in regulation. Graduate student Olly Whitham (Clitheroe, Lancashire, England/Settle College) took one final shot in the last 10 seconds to try and force overtime but his shot went out over the tip right corner and the Marauders hung on for the 2-1 win.

The loss ends the season for the Hukies at 9-9. Sophomore Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) led the Huskies with five goals and three assists this season while freshman Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored four goals and had four assists in his first season at BU. Whitham finished the year with a team-leading eight assists and one goal.

Slotnick wrapped up the year with a 9-5 record and a 1.51 goals against average.
