ON TO THE SEMIS! The Huskies Defeated No. 3 West Chester 1-0 in PSAC Tournament Quarterfinals

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer quest for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Title continues as the No. 2 Huskies knocked off the 23rd-ranked and third-seeded West Chester University Golden Rams, 1-0, Tuesday evening. With the win, the Huskies improved to 13-4-2 for the season while the Golden Rams dropped to 11-4-2 for the year.

The last six contests between the two teams have been decided by one goal (or less) and Tuesday's game was no different as it was a battle of two of the best defenses in the PSAC. The Huskies came into the game allowing just eight goals on the season to lead to the conference while West Chester has allowed 11 goals, third in the PSAC.

The Golden Rams got out of the game quickly with a shot on goal in just the ninth-minute but sophomore Alexa Ryan (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) made her one save for the game to keep WCU off of the board.

Just under five minutes later, the Huskies were awarded a corner kick and graduate student Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) placed the ball into the box for the Huskies offense. Sophomore Erin Ranegan (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) got her head on the ball but WCU's goalie, Hayley McGee made a one-handed stop and sent the ball back into the field of play. Sophomore Lauren Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) got a touch on the ball and sent it toward the goal as junior Abby Groff (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) took advantage of McGee being to her left and tapped it home to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead at the 13:24 mark.

The Huskies had another set piece chance with just over two minutes to play in the half but West Chester's defense cleared the threat and the Huskies carried a 1-0 lead into the break.

Senior Helen Flynn (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) ripped a shot just high in the 49th minute to get the second half underway and Bull's header at the 69:21 mark sailed over the crossbar as the Huskies clung to their 1-0 lead.

Mikaela Berg had a chance in the box with just under eight to play in regulation to tie it but her attempt was stuffed by the BU defense. Jenna Peters took a corner kick for WCU at the 86:30 mark but once again the BU defense took care of their goalie and cleared the ball to seal the 1-0 win and BU's 12th shutout of the season.

The Huskies held a slight 4-2 advantage in shots and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks while each goalie made one save.

Groff, Flynn, Bull, and Ranegan each had a shot for BU.

The Huskies advance to face the top-seeded Mercyhurst University out of the Western Division as the PSAC Tournament comes to Bloomsburg, Pa. on Friday. BU and Mercyhurst will square off at 12:30 pm before No. 2 (W) Gannon and No. 4 (E) Millersville battle at 3:00 pm. The winner of each game will advance to the championship game at Steph Pettit Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
