EDINBORO, Pa. – The duo of Justin's –
Justin Anderson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and
Justin Rodriguez (Easton, Pa./Morristown-Beard) – got a pair of steals in the game's final five seconds to seal the Bloomsburg University men's basketball's 68 65 wins over Edinboro, Thursday evening. With the win, the Huskies improved to 2-5 for the year and 1-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-5 and 0-2 in conference play.
At 1:14, Dominque Keyes grabbed an offensive rebound and drove to the basket to tie the game at 63-63. On Bloomsburg's ensuing possession, the Huskies worked the shot clock to just three seconds left before Anderson drew a shooting foul to go to the free-throw line. The junior hit both shots to give the Huskies a 65-63 lead with 47 seconds to play.
Rodriguez forced a turnover on the other side of the court, but the Fighting Scots returned the favor on the Huskies' in-bound play to get the ball back in front of their bench with 29 seconds to play. Jaryn Simpson drew a foul with the Huskies in the double-bonus and went to the line to shoot two. After sinking both and tying the game at 65-65, the Huskies got the ball back and had time to work on the clock. Head coach
John Sanow immediately called a timeout after Rodriguez got the ball over half-court and the Huskies set up their play. With five seconds left in regulation, Anderson drove to the basket and finished the jumper to give Bloomsburg a 67-65 lead. On the ensuing inbound play, Rodriguez tipped the ball out of the hands of Alex Jay to give the Huskies back the ball and essentially seal the win. Rodriguez was immediately fouled and went to the line to shoot two. While he hit just one of two, the Huskies maintained control of the game.
After grabbing the defensive board, the Fighting Scots called a time out to set up their final play. It was Anderson's turn to disrupt a play, and just as Rodriguez did, Anderson tipped the ball away from the waiting Fighting Scot and closed out the win, 68-65, for BU.
The score remained close for the entire contest, but Bloomsburg had complete control of the game, seemingly from tip to final whistle. The Fighting Scots took their last lead in the game, 9-7, with 17:30 to play in the first half. Junior
Jake Nelson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) made a layup at the 16:09 mark to tie the game, and junior
Travis Elmore (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) made a layup just a minute later to give the Huskies the lead for most of the rest of the game than when Edinboro tied it late in the second. The Fighting Scots did not hold the lead after the 17:30 mark.
The Huskies were led by Anderson with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Elmore finished the day with 13 points and five boards. Nelson finished the day with eight rebounds and eight points while Rodriguez dished out a team-best eight assists to go with his eight points.
The Huskies shot 46.0% (29-for-63) for the game and were 5-for-9 from the free-throw line.

As a team, the Fighting Scots shot 40.0% (26-for-65) for the game and were 8-for-21 from three-point range and 5-got-9 from the free-throw line.
