Women's Tennis Battles Hard, Falls to Millersville 4-3 in PSAC Quarterfinals

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis season came to a close Friday afternoon as the Huskies fell to Millersville University, 4-3, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East quarterfinal match. The Huskies end the season at 4-4 while the Marauders improve to 7-4 for the year.

Because of a default at court six by the Marauders, the Huskies began doubles with a 1-0 lead. Millersville claimed a victory at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, to even the match at 1-1. Bloomsburg's Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) raced out a to a 5-2 lead at No.1 doubles but the Marauders came back to tie the match at 6-6. The Capoferri sister fought hard to earn the tie-break and give Bloomsburg the doubles point and a 1-0 lead for the the match.

The default at count six handed Bloomsburg a win at No. 6 singles, but Millersville pulled out wins at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 2 singles to take a 3-2 lead for the match. Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) pulled out a convincing 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 3-3.

After dropping the first set at No. 5 singles 6-2, senior Devon DiCampli (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) came back to win 6-0 in set two and tie the final match. The Marauders were able to hang on for the win, however, and won 6-2 in the tie breaking set to clinch the 4-3 match win.

Graduate student Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) closed out her final season as a Husky with an impressive 7-1 record at singles to improve to 27-15 for her career at Bloomsburg and 38-35 in her collegiate career.
