BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team played on its homes turf for the first time since 2019 but the Huskies home opener was spoiled by Ashland University as the Eagles picked up a 1-0 win, Saturday. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 1-1 on the year while the Eagles improved to 1-0-1.
Â
The first half ended with a tied 0-0 score, though Ashland's offense pressured the Bloomsburg defense and goalie, sophomore
Alexa Ryan (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), with 10 shots. The Eagles put three on net, but Ryan stopped all three, including an incredible sliding save, just over 11 minutes into the contest.
Â
The second half started off much like the first as Ashland seemed to control the pace of play over the Huskies. Ashland freshman, Macayla Harris, had the only goal scored as she broke the tie in the 49
th minute. The assist came from Bri Forman who sent a through ball to Harris into the box as she was able to charge into the goal and popped the ball just out of reach of the Bloomsburg goalie.

Senior
Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) found herself on a breakaway in front of the Eagles in the 52
nd minute with a chance tie the game but an offsides to squash the scoring attempt.
Â
The Eagles held a 14-9 advantage in shots while Bloomsburg held a 11-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior
Helen Flynn (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the Huskies with a pair of shots.
Â
Ryan finished the day with five saves while her Ashland counterpart, Bri Rogers, needed just three saves for the shutout.
Â
The Huskies are on the road Wednesday for their first Pennsylvanis State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contest against East Stroudsburg University at 7:00 pm.
