Field Hockey Falls to AIC 2-1 on Final Day of Season-Opening Roadtrip

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Bloomsburg University field hockey team dropped a non-conference contest to American International College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Huskies the 0-2 on the year while AIC improved to 2-1.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a quick lead as Avery Sevigny scored just 2:49 into action. Bloomsburg had its first scoring chance as the Huskies were awarded a penalty corner at the 4:19 mark but senior Kristen Robinson's (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) shot was blocked and graduate student Alyssa Broadt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) had her follow attempt saved. With 47 seconds left in the quarter, the Huskies blocked AIC's final attempt in the first to keep it a 1-0 game.

Just 1:05 into the second, AIC pushed its lead to 2-0 as Shannon Cormier found the back of the cage after two saves by Bloomsburg goalie, Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). Both of the Husky shots in the quarter were stopped by AIC goalie Jessica Stone and the two teams took the 2-0 lead for AIC into the break.

The Huskies put four shots on cage in the third but one hit the post and three were stopped by Stone. The Bloomsburg defense kept the Yellow Jackets at bay as AIC did not get a shot off in the 15 minutes.

Freshman Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) had a pair of shots in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter but one was stopped and the other missed wide. The Huskies continued to battle and with just 29 seconds left in regulation, Robinson was awarded a penalty stroke after her initial shot went wide. Robinson connected on her stroke and scored her first goal of the season and cut the AIC lead to 2-1.

Senior Sydney Rimmer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) got one final shot off but couldn't get the equalized and the Yellow Jackets held on for a 2-1 win.

The Huskies held a 15-7 advantage in shots, including a 10-7 shot on goal difference.

Shaffer finished with three saves while Stone made nine saves for AIC.

Bloomsburg returns home for the first time since 2019 as the Huskies host Pace University for a 4:00 pm non-conference contest at Steph Pettit Stadiums. The Huskies game will be streamed in partnership with BUSN and Blue Frame. Fans are encouraged to read Bloomsburg's spectator policy prior to arrival to campus.
