Women's Basketball Notches Huge Win Over Millersville, 73-34

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – A balanced scoring attack led the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 73-34 win over Millersville at home on Saturday.

The Huskies (13-8, 11-4 PSAC) jumped out to an early lead that they never surrendered and were led in scoring by Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) and Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer), who each had 13 points. Emma Gochnauer (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Samantha Brusha (Abington, PA/Abington) both had eight points as the Huskies put on a well-rounded offensive performance that saw 12 different players score points throughout the game.

Bloomsburg started the game on a 7-0 run that was led by Corridoni, who had five of those points. Millersville would cut into the lead and make it a four-point game with four minutes to go, but the Huskies responded by closing out the opening quarter on an 8-0 run to make the game 21-9 after the first. Bloomsburg continued to control the game in the second quarter, outsourcing the Marauders 18-15 to take a 39-24 lead into the break.

With a stifling performance on the defensive end in the third quarter, the Huskies would blow the game open and take complete control. Bloomsburg held Millersville scoreless in the period and added 19 points to its lead to make the contest 58-24. The fourth quarter saw much of the same action with the Huskies outsourcing the Marauders 15-10 to make the final score 73-34.

The defense of the Huskies forced 24 turnovers in the game and those miscues often led to points on the other end. Bloomsburg scored 27 points off turnovers and had 13 fast break points. In addition, the depth of the Huskies played dividends as the team would go on to receive 33 points from the bench.

Offensively, Bloomsburg shot 53.7% (29-54) from the field, including 6-12 from three-point range. The team had 38 points in the paint to go along with its perimeter play and scored 11 second chance points.

Saxton was one rebound away from recording a double-double and led the team in that category. As a team, Bloomsburg collected 41 rebounds, which was 16 more than its opponent.

The Huskies will play their next contest on the road Wednesday at Mansfield University. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
