Women's Basketball Survives Back-and-Forth Battle With Lock Haven, Win 63-54

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team survived 11 lead changes as the Huskies defeated Lock Haven University for the second time this week. The Huskies scored the game's final seven points to win 63-54, Saturday afternoon. With the win, Bloomsburg improved to 6-7 on the year and 4-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play while the Bald Eagles fell to 5-6 and 2-5 in conference action.

With just over three minutes to play in regulation, Ahnera Parker banked in a three-point jumper to cut the lead to two, 56-54. Senior Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) drew a foul on the Huskies' ensuing possession, the fifth team foul for Lock Haven, and went to the line to give Bloomsburg a chance for more of a cushion. Saxton hit the first of two to give BU a 58-54 lead. The Huskies then hit 1-of-2 free throws on their next two possessions to extend their lead to five, 59-54, and made it a two-possession game with 2:09 to play.

Jaynelle Robinson had a chance to cut the deficit two three with just over a minute to play but missed both of her free throws before Saxton pushed the advantage to six, 60-54, with the second of two free throws at the 34 second mark. After a missed layup but LHU, Megan Fisher (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) grabbed the rebound and handed the ball off to Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer). Corridoni was promptly fouled and hit both of her free throws to essentially put the game out of reach of the Bald Eagles, 62-54, with 24 seconds to play. Saxton finished off the game with a free throw with 16.9 seconds to play to seal the 63-54 win.

The Huskies took the lead for good in the third period with 2:40 to play as Corridoni hit a jumper in the paint to give Bloomsburg a 42-41 lead. In the third quarter alone, the lead changed hands seven different times and the score was tied once. At the 6:09 mark, Carly Fitzmorris made the first of two free throws before the two teams went back and forth over the next four minutes with six lead changes. The seventh came in first 10 seconds of the quarter as Saxton hit a two-pointer to give BU a 29-28.
