Men's Soccer Beats Millersville 2-1, Now Tied for 1st in PSAC East

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – After trailing 1-0 early on, a pair of first-half goals led the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to its fourth straight conference victory as they beat Millersville 2-1 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East game Saturday evening.

With the win, the Huskies (8-2-1, 4-1-1 PSAC East) are now in a two-way tie for first place in the PSAC East standings with West Chester (7-2-1, 4-1-1 PSAC East), which lost to East Stroudsburg by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The Huskies and Golden Rams now have an identical conference record of 4-1-1, and both teams have 13 total points on the year.

Bloomsburg fell behind to Millersville (5-2-3, 2-1-3 PSAC East) early on when the conference's fifth-leading scorer Zander Leik knocked in his fifth goal of the season to put the Marauders on top 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Leik's score was assisted by Bob Hennessey.

Bloomsburg would respond in a big way later in the half, however, as Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) knotted the game up at 1-1 nearly 15 minutes later when he scored his second goal of the year. Wilsterman's timely goal was assisted by Shay Gillen (Archbald, Pa./Valley View)

Five minutes after Wilsterman's goal, Kody Besser (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) scored his fourth goal of the year to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead. Besser's goal was assisted by Patrick Walsh (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), and it turned out to be the game winner as Bloomsburg was able to hold onto its one-goal lead for the remainder of the game.

Holding onto the one-goal lead wasn't easy, however, as the Marauders rattled off nine shots in the second half. Millersville finished the contest with 16 shots total, nine of which were on target. Bloomsburg goalkeeper Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) played an excellent game in net to keep the Marauders offense at bey as the sophomore goalkeeper finished with eight saves.

The Huskies offense was outshot 19-8 and Bloomsburg only tallied three shots on goal, but two of them found the back of the net. The Huskies held the edge in corner kicks, 5-4.

The squad has been hot as of late as the team's win on Saturday gives Bloomsburg four straight. The four-game streak comes after a three game skid that saw the Huskies go 0-2-1 against West Chester, Lock Haven and Felician. Prior to that three-game skid, Bloomsburg started the year 4-0.

Bloomsburg will ride its four-game winning streak into its next game, which will be at East Stroudsburg (4-6, 3-2 PSAC East) on Wednesday.
