WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped a close 1-0 match to West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest Saturday afternoon.
Bloomsburg (12-3-1, 7-2-1 PSAC East) goalkeeper
Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) had an excellent day in net, collecting a total of seven saves as West Chester (9-4-2, 6-2-2 PSAC East) put up a total of 15 shots in the game. The Golden Rams, however, would find a way to get on the scoreboard in the 32
nd minute despite Rimple's performance, and the goal would go on to be the only score of the contest.
West Chester's goal came by Shane Hartey during a free kick set piece that was launched from across midfield all the way to Hartey's right foot just in front of the net. Hartley got behind Bloomsburg's back line just enough to get a touch on the ball and send it into the back of the net.
Bloomsburg finished the game with eight total shots, six of which came in the second half as the Huskies tried to score an equalizer.
Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon) and
Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) took the team's only two shots on goal, but West Chester goalkeeper Daniel Good was able to come away with saves and hold the Huskies scoreless.
Bloomsburg still remains on top of the PSAC East standings with two more games to play despite Saturday's loss. West Chester moved into second place in the standings, but their 6-2-2 conference record falls short of Bloomsburg's 7-2-1.
The Huskies will close out their regular season this week with a pair of games against Shippensburg (4-6-4, 0-6-4 PSAC East) and Millersville (9-3-4, 5-2-3 PSAC East). Bloomsburg travels to Shippensburg on Wednesday before hosting Millersville on Saturday for Senior Night.
