THE GAME
The Huskies come into today's game 2-3 and 1-1 in conference play after special teams and defense led 21-16 win over West Chester last Saturday. The Huskies got a score from all three phases of the game - a blocked punt,
fumble recovery, and passing TD. The Golden Bears comes into the game 3-2 and 1-1 in the PSAC East after a late fourth-quarter touchdown led KU to a 24-20 win over East Stroudsburg.

THE SERIES
The Huskies hold a 47-26-1 all-time series lead over the Golden Bears, though Kutztown is on a five-game winning streak. The last Huskies' win came in 2015 when BU out-lasted Kutztown 27-21 in overtime on October 17 in Bloomsburg. Kutztown rolled to a 34-7 win last season over Bloomsburg.

SCOUTING KU
The Golden Bears come into the game with a 3-2 overall record. They opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Assumption before rebounding for a 24-19 win over then-17th ranked California (Pa.) in the first East/West PSAC Crossover game. KU won its second-straight game with a dominant 50-31 victory over Mercyhurst before dropping a 42-35 decision to #5 Shepherd to open conference action. KU used a late fourth quarter touchdown to take down ESU, 24-20 last week.

Donny Blaine has taken every snap under center this season for KU and is 62-100-5 with seven touchdowns and 893 yards. His favorite target has been Jerome Kapp who has 20 catches for 397 yards and four touchdowns. Alex MacKenzie has caught two TDs and has 85 yards on six catches while Tyreek Husser caught the other touchdown pass and has three catches for 34 yards.

Darryl Davis-McNeil leads the rushing attack for Kutztown with 457 yards on 104 carries and seven touchdowns. Jordan Davis has 210 yard and two touchdowns on 58 carries. Blaine ran one score in as well.

Defensively, the Golden Bears are led by Amani Justice with 39 tackles, including 4.0 for loss (13 yards) and 1.0 sacks. Justice has two QB hurries and a forced and recovered fumble. CJ Brown and Tyler Whary each have 30 tackles and 1.0 tackles for loss. Whary leads the team with four QB hurries. Brown leads the team with three fumble recoveries.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Bloomsburg comes into the game with a 2-3 overall record after defeating West Chester last Saturday to even its PSAC East record at 1-1. The Huskies opened the year with a 33-30 loss in double overtime to FCS DI Stonehill before defeating Clarion 42-3. The Huskies dropped an overtime 23-20 decision to Edinboro before falling to Shippensburg 31-17 two weeks ago.

The Huskies will most likely see a new face to start the game under center on Saturday as David LePoidevin (Middlesex, N.J./Bound Brook) is poised to make his first start at quarterback this season. In limited action, he is 10-for-19 with one INT, one touchdown pass, and 151 yards.

Matthew Bowes (Somerton, Pa./La Salle College HS) continues to be the favorite target of BU quarterbacks with 12 catches and 179 yards, and two touchdowns, while Kaleb Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) is a dual threat for the Huskies. Monaco has four catches for two touchdowns and 132 yards while rushing for a team-leading 224 yards on 69 carries. Tyshaun Pollard (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) has six catches for 118 yards, and John Mack (Minisink Valley, N.Y./Minisink Valley) has six catches for 92 yards and a score.

Zane Janiszewski (Hollisterville, Pa./Western Wayne) has carried the ball 22 times for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Huskies are led by Quentin Gaskill (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) with 46 tackles, 2.0 TFL (23 yards), and 2.0 sacks (23 yards). Gaskill has one interception, nine pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. Ryan D'Ambra (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) has made a name for himself this season with 34 tackles, one pass break up, and one QB hurry. He has two forced fumbles and blocked a punt last week against West Chester. Chris Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) leads the team with two interceptions, while Joseph Kahn (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) has a team-leading 3.0 sacks (22 yards) and 4.0 TFL (24 yards).

SCOOP AND SCORE
The Huskies had a pair of scoop and scores last Saturday against West Chester. Hakeem Bacon (Chester, Pa./STEM Academy) got his first career touchdown after grabbing the loose ball after Ryan D'Ambra (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) blocked West Chester's punt at its own 43 yard line. William Martin III (Darby Township, Pa./Academy Park) got in on the action as he grabbed a fumble and hustled down the field for an 88-yard fumble recovery TD, which was also his first career TD.

ON THIS DAY - OCTOBER 8
Bloomsburg Football History, October 8, 2011
Bloomsburg University running back Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West) rushed for three touchdowns and caught another as he led the number two ranked Huskies (6-0, 3-0 PSAC East) to a 45-10 win over the Wolves of Cheyney (1-5, 0-3 PSAC East). With the win, head coach Danny Hale earned his 200th career coaching win, placing him fifth amongst active coaches in NCAA Division II football.

Danny Hale on win 200: "It feels really good, especially when I saw it was on homecoming and to be able to share it with all these past players. A lot of the past players came back. This team is special and the character of this team is real special and it's a good milestone to be over now. Actually I am going to enjoy 200 tonight and tomorrow I'm thinking of 201."

QUITE THE STREAK
Bloomsburg has scored at least one point in 211 consecutive games dating back to a 21-0 home loss against Shippensburg on September 13, 2003. Bloomsburg is 115-3 all-time when scoring at least 40 points in a game. However, the Huskies have only reached the 40-point plateau seven times in the last 49 contests. The Huskies defeated Clarion 42-3 three weeks ago at home.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN(S)
The Huskies named a group of 10 leaders as captains for the 2022 season - Aaron Trumino (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), Tyshaun Pollard (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), Chris Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), Adam Burkhart (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Jack Riley (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East), Quentin Gaskill (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro), Billy Martin, Ky Seesholtz (Mifflinville, Pa./Central Columbia), John Ayres (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel), and Tom Goetz (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional).

RED(ZONE) HOT OFFENSE
The Bloomsburg offense was firing on all cylinders two weeks ago against Clarion and has been red hot in the red zone all season. Against Clarion, the Huskies made two trips into the red zone, and both times came away with seven points (thanks to a couple of PATs from Brendan McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City)). Two weeks again against Stonehill, the Huskies were 5-for-5 in the red zone with touchdowns and a pair of field goals. Last week against Edinboro, the Huskies made one trip to the redzone and walked away with seven points.

For the season, the Huskies are 10-11 in the red zone and are ranked 22nd in DII with a 90.9 red zone percentage. The Huskies have scored six touchdowns in 11 trips to the red zone.

THE RILEY FILE
Freshman QB KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) is off to a strong start for the Huskies. Riley has thrown for 562 yards and six touchdowns in his first five games. He is 37-65-3 and has rushed for 143 yards on 39 attempts and one touchdown. Riley is averaging 3.7 yards per carrying this year. After throwing a limited number of times during the opening week, Riley was the poster child for efficiency against Clarion, completing 11 of his 13 passes for 258 yards and four scores. He ran the ball six times for 64 yards and a touchdown.

ONE LAST RIDE
The Huskies may be young this season but boast a wealth of leadership from crucial upperclassmen. Samuel Darrell III (Plainfield, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional), a transfer, Chris Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), Tyshaun Pollard (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), and Aaron Trumino (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) are playing in their final season as graduate students, while Jamir Redd (Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) is suiting up for the Maroon & Gold as a senior this season

THE TOWN OF BROTHERLY LOVE
The Huskies boast a pair of brothers on their roster again this season. Senior Chris Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) came back to make up for the lost season to due to COVID to join his brother, Kaleb, in Bloomsburg Maroon & Gold for the second-straight season. Sophomore quarter David LePoidevin (Middlesex, N.J./Bound Brook) welcomes his little brother, Patrick, to a strong group of signal callers for the Huskies this season.

This season, the Monaco brothers are making an impact on both sides of the ball. Younger brother, Kaleb, is the team's leading rusher with 224 yards on the ground on 69 carries. He has 132 receiving yards on four catches and two touchdowns. 62 of his yards in the air came off a touchdown pass from KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) against Clarion three weeks ago. He caught another 58-yard pass from Riley for a score against WCU. Monaco leads the team with 608 all purpose yards with 252 kick return yards. He racked up 127 yards on the kick return two weeks ago against Shippensburg.

Older brother, Chris, has made his presence known to opposing quarterbacks this season. He has 17 tackles, 12 solo, and seven broken up passes. Chris picked off Edinboro's Isaac Bernard and returned it for 23 yards to set up a short field for the Huskies. KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) threw a 25-yard TD pass to Matthew Bowes (Somerton, Pa./La Salle College HS) on the next play. Monaco returned an INT for 25 yards last week against West Chester.

FRESH OUTLOOK
The Huskies boast one of the youngest starting lineups in all of Division II college football. On opening day, Bloomsburg looks to start 19 freshmen or sophomores  and had 39 underclassmen total listed on the depth chart.

Under center, KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) has started the first five games for the Huskies. This season, Riley is 37-for-65 with six TDs and three INTs. He has 562 yards in the air. Riley is second on the team with 143 rushing yards and a touchdown. Sophomore David LePoidevin (Middlesex, N.J./Bound Brook) is projected to get his first start this season on Saturday after playing in 10 games last season and threw for 1,423 yards and 16 touchdowns. LePoidevin is 10-for-19 with one touchdown and one interception and 151 yards this year.

Protecting the two QBs will be a mix of red shirt juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Jake Yoder, Marlon Wescott, and Aaron Bensinger (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) look to bring leadership to the young group of o-linemen.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
Coach Sheptock did not have to go far for talent to fill this year's roster. The 2022 Huskies boast 27 players from Columbia and surroundings counties. The Huskies have three players from local Danville Area High School and another from Southern Columbia and Berwick.

The local talent made an immediate impact on the field for the Huskies this season. KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), from Danville, Pa., has started every game under center and is responsible for six of the Huskies touchdowns this year, either passing or rushing.

Kaleb Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), a Pocono Pines native, has rushed for 224 yards and caught four passes for another 132 and two touchdowns. He has 252 yards on kick returns as well.

John Ayres (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel), a running back from Mt. Carmel, has a pair of rushing touchdowns this season and Nas Jones (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), from Williamsport, Pa. has 34 receiving yards.

Jake Davis (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia), a Elysburg, Pa. native and product of Southern Columbia, has eight tackles and five broken up passes after breaking up three last week against Shippensburg.

I'LL TAKE THAT
The Huskies dominated the turnover battle against Stonehill and picked up right where they left off in 2021. Bloomsburg forced one fumble and recovered a pair of fumbles as Stonehill muffed a punt early in the second quarter that Deeko Kofa (Philadelphia, Pa./Samuel Fels) jumped on to get the ball back to the Huskies with a short field. The Huskies needed just 25 yards to get into the end zone on a run by Zane Janiszewski (Hollisterville, Pa./Western Wayne) and a fumble recovery by John Ayres (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel). Quentin Gaskill (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) had his first pick of the season late in the fourth quarter as he intercepted a pass in the end zone by Stonehill.

The Huskies did not turn the ball over against Clarion and are currently ranked 43rd in the NCAA with a +0.50 turnover margin.

Two weeks against Edinboro, the Huskies had one interception which set up a touchdown drive and Tom Goetz (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional) returned a fumble for a score at the end of the third quarter.

The Huskies made the most of their turnovers against West Chester with an 88-yard fumble return for a TD and a fumble recovery that halted a potential West Chester scoring drive.

SHEPTOCK ERA
Sheptock was named the 28th head football coach in Bloomsburg University as he returns to his alma mater to take over the Huskies' program. Sheptock was at Division III Wilkes University as the defensive coordinator from 1990-95 and then took over the Colonels' program and served as head coach from 1996-2014. While at Wilkes, Sheptock went 107-81 overall and established the program record for most wins in a season (11) and career (107) while leading the Colonels to nine postseason appearances.

A member of the NCAA Division II Team of the Quarter Century (1973-97), Sheptock played linebacker for head coach George Landis and holds the school records for tackles in a career (537), single-season (159), and single-game (23), as well as career fumble recoveries (12). His program record for tackles in a single game, in fact, occurred during the national semifinal contest at North Alabama.

HUDDLE WITH THE HUSKIES
For the second-straight year, head coach Frank Sheptock will host "Huddle with the Huskies" at Quaker Steak & Lube in Buckhorn, Pa. on three select Thursdays this season. The next "Huddle with the Huskies" is set for Thursday, October 20 ahead of the Huskies Homecoming game against East Stroudsburg on Saturday, October 22. The final Huddle will take place on November 3, just before the Huskies' final home game of the season against Millersville.

The events are open to the public with dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a short program to follow. A buffet dinner will be held each night with the cost of the meal being $14 per person - including a non-alcoholic beverage. Following the dinner, Coach Sheptock will speak about the season, preview the upcoming game(s), and introduce members of the coaching staff and players from this year's roster.

KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and Ky Seesholtz (Mifflinville, Pa./Central Columbia) headlined the first Huddle with the Huskies and were joined by Joseph Kahn (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove). The three talked about their time so far at Bloomsburg, what brought them to the Huskies, and what to expect this season.
