KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team closed out its 2022 season with an exciting five-set victory over Kutztown on Saturday.
Trailing by one set heading into the fourth game, the Huskies won the pulled out a tight 29-27 victory to force a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker, Bloomsburg beat the Golden Bears 18-16 to take the win.
In the fourth set with the game tied at 27-27,
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) had a kill to put Bloomsburg on top, and the Huskies would win the set when Kutztown committed an attacking error to give the away team the game-winning point.
In the tiebreaker set, the Huskies jumped out to a huge advantage early on by scoring seven of the first eight points, but Kutztown battled back to tie things up at 9-9. The rest of the set continued to be a back-and-forth game, but the Huskies were able to outlast the Golden Bears and won the set when Kutztown's Lexi Morrow and Adrianna Derstine committed errors to give Bloomsburg the win, 18-16.
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) led the Huskies in kills with 14 each. Bopp finished the day with a team-high attacking percentage of 45%.
Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) led Bloomsburg in assists with a total of 20. Stek also added 14 digs.
Brooke Kratzer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was second on the team in assists with 15, and the senior added 10 digs.
Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) had a solid defensive day as the team's libero, finishing the contest with 43 digs.
As a team, Bloomsburg held the advantage in blocks, 14-6.
Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) led the Huskies in blocks with eight. Bopp had six while Buell and Antigua had five each.
