Women's Lacrosse Cruises to a 20-9 Win Over Gannon Friday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa. – For the second-straight game, the Bloomsburg University lacrosse team's offense was not cooled off by rain or snow as the Huskies cruised to a 20-9 win over Gannon on Friday. It is the second game in a row. Bloomsburg put up at least 20 goals, and the Huskies have scored at least 16 goals in every game this season.

Sophomore Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) put the Huskies on the board first with her eighth goal of the season just 28 seconds into action, thanks to a quick pass in front of the cage from senior Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts). Gannon evened the score at 1-1 at the 11:20 mark but three-straight goals from the Huskies to end the quarter gave BU a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Junior Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) found the back of the net for the first time at the 8:31 mark to kick off the run, and freshman Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) closed out the quarter with her first tally of the game with 5:05 to play. Sophomore Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) scored her first of the game in between Williams' and Fulmer's tallies.

Junior Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) pushed the Huskies lead to 5-1 with her goal just 2:49 into the second quarter, but Gannon rattled off three-straight goals to cut the lead to one, 5-4, with 7:36 to play. After the Knights' fourth goal, Coyle won the draw and went straight to the cage for her second of the game and the 6-4 Bloomsburg lead. Kilgallon and Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) scored on back-to-back free position attempts to give the Huskies an 8-4 lead with 6:05 to play before Gannon halted a potential scoring run with a goal at the 4:52 mark. Stoll pushed BU's lead to 10-5 with back-to-back tallies before Caroline Stevens finished a free-position shot for the Golden Knights to cut the deficit to 10-6 with 1:37 to play.

As the temperature dropped, the Huskies' offense heated up, and BU went on a 3-0 run in the final 54 seconds of the quarter to take a 13-6 lead into the halftime break. Kilgallon got the first goal of the run thanks to an assist from Class before Kalish scored a pair of goals in a matter of 15 seconds to close out the half.

The Huskies and Knights traded a pair of goals in just eight seconds two minutes into the third quarter. Gannon scored again with 10:47 to play before Stoll, and junior Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) went back-to-back to give the Huskies a 16-8 lead with 8:45 to play. After another Knights' goal from McKenna Woodworth, Williams closed out the quarter with a pair of tallies to give Bloomsburg an 18-9 lead with 15 minutes to play.

Kilgallon needed just 31 seconds into the fourth to give Bloomsburg a 19-9 lead before Fulmer scored the game's final goal with 37 seconds to play on a free position shot to seal the 20-9 win.

Kalish and Stoll finished the day with four goals, while Kilgallon and Williams added three. Kilgallon dished out one assist to go with her goals. Clauss led the team with two assists and a goal. Coyle won a team-best seven draw controls.

The Huskies were 7-for-10 on free-position shots, with Kalish leading the way at 3-for-3. Kilgallon was 2-for-3, while Stoll and Fulmer were 1-for-1.

Stoll, Coyle, senior Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), and Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) all caused two turnovers, while Stoll, Coyle, and Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) each picked up three ground balls.

Foley earned the win in net for the Huskies with seven saves over the 60 minutes, while her Gannon counterpart, Cheyenne Jess, took the loss with eight saves.

The Huskies return to the friendly confines of Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday when they open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play against Shepherd University. The opening draw is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
