OFier's Walk-Off HR Caps Off Huskies Comeback Over Chestnut Hill

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – A three-run walk-off home run by Bloomsburg University's Kyle OFier (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) in the bottom of the 10th inning capped off a dramatic come-from-behind victory for the Huskies against Chestnut Hill at home on Wednesday.

Following a pitching change, OFier sent the first pitch he saw over the right-field fence to break a 12-12 tie and give the Huskies a 15-12 victory. It was the second homer of the day for the redshirt senior as he also hit a solo home run to left field back in the third inning. OFier finished the day 3-5 with four runs batted in and two runs scored.

Anthony Viggiano (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and Ben Newbert (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton) also had big days at the plate for Bloomsburg, which has now scored 29 total runs in its last two contests. In a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the first inning, Viggiano hit a three-run double to right field. The redshirt junior finished 1-3 with a pair of runs scored. Newbert hit a two-run homer in the seventh and was 2-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Carter Chasanov (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) was 3-5 with a double while Tyler Wiik (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and Jake Reed (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) had two-hit days.

The 27-run game saw some offense early when each squad scored four runs in the first inning. Chestnut Hill followed that up with another four-run inning in the second and added one more in the third to jump out to a 9-4 lead through 2.5 innings of play. Bloomsburg answered in the bottom of the third with two runs to cut into the deficit and both teams were held scoreless until the sixth inning.

Both teams scored one run in the sixth and the Griffins put up two more in the top of seventh to take a 12-7 lead, but Bloomsburg went on to answer in a big way. The Huskies scored a total of four runs in the next two innings to make it a one-run contest heading into the ninth. After holding the Griffins scoreless in the top of the ninth, the Huskies tied things up when Christian Labarbera (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored on a Jared Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) sacrifice fly and force an extra inning. The 10th inning began with a Chasanov single and after a fielder's choice, Newbert was walked to give the Huskies the game-winning run at second and force a pitching change. Following the change, OFier hit his three-run blast on the first pitch of his at-bat.

The homer capped off a rally that saw the Huskies score eight unanswered runs over the course of four innings. The 15-run performance also comes one day after the team put up 14 runs against Le Moyne in seven innings at home on Tuesday. In the two games total, Bloomsburg has 29 runs and 29 hits in its last 17 innings.

The Huskies will be looking to keep their bats rolling as they finish off their three-game homestand on Friday with a single nine-inning game against Shepherd. The conference game will begin at 2:00 PM. The series with the Rams will then continue on Saturday with an away doubleheader at Shepherd.
