Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game To Adelphi, 12-4

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped an away non-conference game to Adelphi University by a final tally of 12-4 on Wednesday.

The Panthers (8-4) got out to an 8-0 lead before a grand slam by Brady Gibble (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) in the seventh inning cut the deficit in half for the Huskies (11-9-1, 3-2-1 PSAC). However, Adelphi was able to answer with some insurance runs and hold on for the four-run win.

Gibble's grand slam capped off a two-hit game for the sophomore, who knocked in all four runs with his second homer of the season. Ben Newbert (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton) also had a pair of hits with two singles. Kyle OFier (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area), Jared Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Bryce Porter (Lincoln University, Pa./Perkiomen) all had one hit to bring Bloomsburg's total to seven on the day. OFier, Jonathon Labarbera and Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) all got on base twice by drawing walks.

Adelphi got out to its 8-0 lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and having two three-run innings in the third and fifth. Following Gibble's home run that made it an 8-4 contest, the Panthers scored four run in the bottom-half of the seventh to make it 12-4.

Adelphi had three different hitters with two hits and two players with three hits. Kyle Olsen and Matt Alifano led the way with three RBI each. Jose Matos homered in the third as the Panthers had five extra-base hits.

Jordan Falco received the win on the mound for the Panthers after throwing six scoreless innings. Bloomsburg's Dylan Lubinski (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) was given the loss.

The game ends a two-game road trip to New York for the Huskies as the team took on St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday.

Bloomsburg returns to conference play on Friday with a home contest against Kutztown. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM. As of Wednesday evening, Bloomsburg sits in the No. 4 spot in the PSAC East while Kutztown is seventh with a 2-4 conference record.
