BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 6-1 win over Shippensburg University on Senior Day. The Huskies claimed the No. 3 Seed in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
Prior to the match, head coach
Rebecca Helt honored her two graduating seniors from the women's team –
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and
Alyssa Kapcsos (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom).
The Huskies got the match going on the right foot with a sweep of the doubles matches to claim the first team point.
Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan/Meguro Nihon University High School) and
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) opened the day with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Sarquis partnered with
Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area) at No. 2 doubles and clinched the point with a 6-3 win.
Alese Rinker (/) and Kapcsos closed out the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Quackenbush earned her second win of the day as she posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Sarquis gave the Huskies a 3-0 match lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Anna Chikhaknko clinched the win for the Huskies with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
Hagishima won her second match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 and Mazurek picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. The Raiders claimed their only match point at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
The Huskies will return to action in the PSAC Tournament quarterfinal match against West Chester on Tuesday, April 26.
