Softball Splits a Pair of Walk-Offs to Remain Alive in the 2022 PSAC Tournament

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games that came down to the final at-bat to stay alive in the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Softball Tournament, Thursday. After falling to Kutztown 4-3 on a walk-off in their first game of the day, the Huskies eliminated Shippensburg with a walk-off of their own, 8-7, in their final game of the day.
 
The Huskies and Raiders were tied 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh, and Bloomsburg were down to its final at-bat with the bases loaded. After working a 1-1 count, Alexis Wetzler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High School) watched three-straight balls called to walk in Erin DelPierre (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) for the game-winning run. Earlier that inning, DelPierre tied the game at 7-7 after she reached on a fielding error, and Rebecca Rossi (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) came home to score. Shippensburg forced the bottom of the seventh after scoring four runs in the top of the inning to take a 7-6 lead.  
 
The Huskies and Raiders traded a three-run second inning before Bloomsburg built a 6-3 lead with a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) gave Bloomsburg the lead in the bottom of the fourth as she singled down the left-field line to bring around Wetzler. Danielle Barnes (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) piled on to the lead with an RBI single of her own in the fifth that scored Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area). Sammi Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) gave the Huskies a 6-3 lead with an RBI double in the sixth that brought home Lenner.
 
Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) earned the win in relief in the circle for Bloomsburg as she went 5.0 innings and allowed four runs, just two earned, on six hits and four walks while striking out eight.
 
Iseminger went 3-for-4 at the play with a run scored, while Lenner, Starr, and Barnes all collected two hits.
 
In the first game of the day, Kutztown jumped to the early lead with a run in the bottom of the third. Iseminger answered for the Huskies as she singled to right-center to bring home Wetzler. She added to the lead for the Huskies with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh with Starr on for the 3-1 advantage.
 
Top-seed in the East Golden Bears hit a pair of homers in the bottom of the seventh to walk off against the Huskies, 4-3, and remain undefeated in the tournament.
 
Iseminger was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Starr had two hits.
 
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) suffered the loss in the complete-game effort as she allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and one walk. Sowers struck out seven.
 
The Huskies return to action Friday morning in an elimination game in the tournament's quarterfinals against Shepherd University at 10:00 am. The Huskies dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Rams during the regular season.
