Women's Soccer Blanks Millersville, 2-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Two goals in the first half led the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest on Saturday.

The Huskies (5-1, 3-1 PSAC East) got their first lead of the game 13 minutes in when Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) headed in a lob pass that was sent into the box by Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area). Varano's goal is her fourth of the season, which leads the team and the entire PSAC.

The single score would've been enough as Bloomsburg's defense held Millersville (0-4-1, 0-3-1 PSAC East) scoreless throughout, but Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) extended the team's lead to 2-0 just 20 minutes after Varano's score. The sophomore scored first her first goal of the season from long range as she sent the ball into the back of the net from on a shot outside of the box.

Bloomsburg dominated the first half, getting off nine shots off in the frame while holding Millersville to zero shots in the first 45 minutes. The second half saw much of the same, as the Huskies out shot the Marauders 7-2. Bloomsburg finished the game with 16 total shots (12 on goal) to Millersville's two total shots, both of which came in the second half.

Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) recorded a save on both of Millersville's shot attempts, and the Bloomsburg goalkeeper now has 21 saves on the season.

The Bloomsburg win is the team's second straight shutout victory, and the squad has now held four opponents scoreless in its six games in 2022.

The No. 25 ranked Huskies will have a pivotal conference game in their next outing as they host division leader and No. 12 nationally ranked Kutztown (4-0-1, 3-0-1 PSAC East) on Wednesday at Steph Pettit Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
