BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University Department of Athletics is set to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a Day of Service and in celebration of Dr. King's legacy, the Huskies will host a 2023 Community Night Event at the home basketball doubleheader on Wednesday, January 18.

Admission will be FREE for all on Wednesday, January 18 for the 2023 Community Night Event

On Wednesday, January 18, the Bloomsburg women's basketball team is set to host Shippensburg at 5:30 p.m. and the men's basketball team will host Shippensburg following the women's contest at 7:30 p.m. Both Bloomsburg University basketball games will be held on the Bloomsburg campus in Nelson Field House.

During the day on January 18, members of the Bloomsburg men's and women's basketball team will be taking part in a day of service as the Huskies look to support the local community. The Bloomsburg student-athletes will be visiting local schools to meet, interact and read to area school-aged children. They will also be taking part in a community service project at Agape Community Center.

The Day of Service and Community Night Event is a partnership between the department of athletics and the University's office of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

"The planned Day of Service and Community Night continues to promote the legacy and purpose of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s work," said Albert Jones, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer. "The engagement between our student-athletes and the various community members enriches relationships and networks in a positive way. It also supports our mission of growth and excellence by giving back. I'm excited about our continued efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our local community."

The office of diversity, equity, and inclusion strives to embed diversity and inclusion as transformational forces in academic excellence and professional growth through education, university programs, and fair and objective responses to complaints and concerns. The mission strives for an environment where people can participate equally and fully as their true selves, and where all individuals can effectively engage across difference in a community grounded in understanding, trust, and connectedness.
