LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team lost to Lock Haven 82-71 during an away Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (0-11, 0-7 PSAC) hung around with the Bald Eagles (10-2, 6-1 PSAC) for a majority of the first half and trailed by just five points after Bloomsburg's
Cam Villarouel (Cumming, GA/State College (PA)) scored the first points of the second half.
Following Villarouel's layup, however, Lock Haven went on a 22-7 scoring run to go up by a score of 67-47 with 9:03 remaining. The Huskies chipped away at the deficit but were unable to make it a single-digit game as the Bald Eagles hung on for the victory.
Villarouel finished with nine points and three steals in 22 minutes of play.
Desmond Freeman (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) led the Huskies in scoring with 16 points and shot the ball 50% from the floor.
Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) had 14 points and four assists in 30 minutes off the bench while
Ash Kemble (Myerstown, Pa./Fork Union Military Academy) had 10 points and three rebounds.
Jake Nelson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) led the team in rebounds with six and had six points.
Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) knocked down a pair of threes and finished with eight points.
For Lock Haven, Jayy Davis led all players with 20 points as the Bald Eagles had five different players in double figures. Dymir Montague had 15 points and seven assists while James Price had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Eli Washington had 11 points and Justice Shoats had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Huskies gained the first lead of the contest when Freeman scored the first basket of the game on the opening possession. Freeman continued to play well and went on to score the team's first eight points of the game, which was tied at 8-8 nearly four minutes into the contest. From there, Lock Haven went on a 7-0 scoring run to regain the lead. The Huskies continued to play tough and kept the deficit under 10 points for much of the first half, and the Bald Eagles led by a score of 45-38 at the half. Villarouel's first points of the second half made it a five-point game before Lock Haven's final scoring run put the game away.
Lock Haven led nearly every statistical category, but Bloomsburg was able to score more bench points. The Huskies had a total of 28 bench points, opposed to Lock Haven's 20.
Bloomsburg will pick back up on Wednesday with a road game at No. 23 East Stroudsburg. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 PM.
