Offense Powers Men's Soccer Past Goldey-Beacom

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's soccer team used a dominant offensive performance Monday evening to earn a 4-1 win against Goldey-Beacom at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Huskies (5-2-3, 3-1-2 PSAC East) got four goals from three different players and continued their excellent play from set pieces in the victory.

Overall, Bloomsburg had a 21-7 shot advantage over Goldey-Beacom (2-6-1, 0-2-1 CACC) with a 12-3 edge in shots on goal while ending the night with an 8-1 discrepancy in corners.

How It Happened:
The Bloomsburg attack opened up firing on all cylinders, notching the first two goals of the game.

After getting a corner in the 27th minute, Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) stepped up on the right side. The senior stepped and fired the ball right at the front off, where Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) shrugged off a defender and headed home his third goal of the season.

Within minutes, the Huskies doubled their lead with another headed chance. Bloomsburg continued its excellence from set pieces as Braden Alicea (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) found Kody Besser (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) in the box, and the defender nodded in his second goal of the year.

The Lightning remained without a goal until an aggressive counter-attack awarded the visitors a penalty. Eduardo Coimbra fired home a rocket shot to the right side of the net to make it a 2-1 contest.

Bloomsburg remained on the offensive in the second half, looking to increase its advantage. The Huskies tacked on a third after a mistake on the line from the Goldey-Beacom defense. With several players from both sides in the box, a scramble ensued, resulting in a failed clearance ricocheting into the back of the net to give Bloomsburg a 3-1 advantage.

As time faded in the evening, the Huskies' aggression pushing forward did not. Bloomsburg added one more goal on the night, the first in the career of freshman Owen Hollobaugh (State College, Pa./State College). The forward tapped in a loose ball in front of the end that capped off an outstanding attacking display.

On The Horizon:
The Huskies enter a bye week and prepare for the back half of the season that continues with a home PSAC East contest at Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday, October 11, at 7:30 against East Stroudsburg.
