PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell in straight sets against Chestnut Hill Tuesday evening.
Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) was the offensive leader for the Huskies on the night, tied with a team-best .385Â hitting percentage and six kills.
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) matched the team-high with six kills for Bloomsburg and, with her performance, became the sixth player in program history to record 500 career points.
The Huskies move to 7-14 on the year as Chestnut Hill improves to 9-12 on the season.
How It Happened:Â
Bloomsburg could not overcome several slow starts and offensive inconsistencies in its matchup with the Griffins.Â
In set one, the Huskies trailed wire-to-wire, looking for several opportunities to get past the home side. Bloomsburg cut its deficit to one point at 8-9 in the first set, but after trading sideouts, Chestnut Hill capitalized on its opportunities to take the first set 25-18. Jackson was the most potent option for the Huskies to start the match, closing with three kills in the opening frame.
Bloomsburg's offensive struggles carried over into the second set, with the team unable to find a rhythm, resulting in a 2-0 match deficit. Down by as much as 12 in the second frame, the Huskies strung together a 7-1 run, fending off several set points, before ultimately surrendering the second set, 18-25.
Warfel and
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) each recorded two kills in an effort to close the gap. Â
Despite a match-high hitting percentage in the third set for Bloomsburg, the team could not mount a comeback attempt.Â
The two sides went back and forth to open the third set, leading to a 9-9 score in the early portions. Warfel and
Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) sparked the early attacking momentum for the Huskies, each recording two kills to begin what was the final set.Â
A 4-0 run from the Griffins created separation between the two teams, with a sequence of sideouts maintaining the gap before another four-point run provided the home side with a seven-point edge. Jackson put in one final kill on the night before Chestnut Hill closed out the night in straight sets.
Tayla Miller (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) put in a great defensive effort, averaging at least five digs per set for the fifth time this season.
On The Horizon:
The Huskies are back at Nelson Field House to kick off a stretch of four consecutive conference games at home, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, against Kutztown.
