Field Hockey Eliminated From PSAC Tournament in Overtime, 1-0, Against Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Bloomsburg field hockey team fell in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament in overtime, 1-0, against Mansfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams traded possession for the first five minutes before Mansfield (12-6) recorded the first two shots of the game. Bloomsburg (14-5) blocked both attempts before charging downfield to register the game's first shot on goal at a 6:22-minute mark.

The Mountaineers had another pair of shots blocked later in the first quarter while holding the Huskies to just two shots in the opening 15 minutes.

Mansfield and Bloomsburg put on a defensive showcase in the second quarter, as Lillie Weaver (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) posted the quarters only shot with 10 seconds remaining.

Bloomsburg got outshot 4-3 in the half but posted two shots on goal and held the Mounties to none.

The defensive showcase continued in the third as Mansfield held the Huskies without a shot and recorded two of their own. The second Mountaineers shot was blocked, the fifth block of the game for the maroon and gold.

In the fourth, Bloomsburg blacked its sixth shot of contest 87 seconds in before turning momentum around to earn a corner at the other end of the field. On the ensuing corner, a shot from Sam Schaffer (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) was blocked by the Mansfield defense.

With six minutes remaining, the Mountaineers' Saramae Radel took a shot of the corner that rung off the post and out of play. That served as the final shot of regulation, as extra-time would be required at Karl Van Norman Stadium.

Three minutes into overtime, Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) was denied on a penalty corner. The Huskies earned another penalty corner less than a minute later but the shot from Jordan Bond (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) rolled wide of the cage. On a corner of their own with less than three minutes remaining, Hannah Meyer ended the game with the overtime-winner to send the Mounties to the PSAC semifinals.

Bush recorded 2 shots in the match, both of which were saved by August Lewis. Sam Schaffer (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) also posted 2 shots in the game.

The Huskies finish the season with 14 wins, the most wins since 2012. This is the 33rd time in program history the Bloomsburg has won at least 14 games in a season.
