Women's Soccer Defeats Shepherd With Decisive Effort

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's soccer team captured a 3-1 victory over Shepherd at Steph Pettit Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (4-4-3, 4-3-2 PSAC East) got goals from three different contributors, with Lauren Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) getting on the board in the first half before goals from Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and the first career goal for Olivia Thompson (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) put the match away.

Bloomsburg had a constant presence in the Rams half, finishing the day with a 13-4 advantage in corners.

How It Happened:
The Huskies opened up the afternoon as the aggressors on both ends, applying a high press that caused issues for the visitors throughout the day.

Bloomsburg relayed that pressure into an early opportunity 10 minutes in. After Laci Bell (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) pushed play down the wing, the freshman found a free Bull just outside the box as the midfielder fired home a low-driven shot that put the Huskies up 1-0.

Shepherd found several opportunities after escaping the press, resulting in a pair of shots. Bloomsburg strung together a sequence of four corners, with the best opportunity coming from a Stoll shot saved by the Rams' goalkeeper.

In the second half, the opposing strategies created chances for both sides. Shepherd found more opportunities as the game progressed, pushing a header wide in the 57th minute before firing a chance inside the box over the crossbar.

The Huskies found their second goal of the game following a flurry of shots. Bell took a shot outside the box that bounced off the post, finding Bull on the edge of the box. The ball deflected off Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) before landing at the feet of Stoll. The senior collected the ball and tucked the ball into the top-right corner to double Bloomsburg's lead.

Thompson capped off the scoring for the Huskies Saturday afternoon with her first collegiate goal. The freshman was in the right place at the right time, tapping in a deflected ball that left the goalkeeper out of position.

The Shepherd counter-attack struck in the closing minutes of the game, as Taylor Schuck and Sofia Carrera connected on a set piece to lead to the 3-1 final.

On The Horizon:
The Bloomsburg women's soccer team returns to Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday, October 11, at 5:00 p.m. to take on East Stroudsburg in PSAC action.
