Volleyball Celebrates Senior Night With Win Over Millersville

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team celebrated senior night inside Nelson Field House with a 3-1 victory over Millersville.

Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) capped off a career weekend on Saturday by setting new career bests in kills (16) and digs (25) while adding two service aces. Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) pulled the strings offensively with 41 assists in four sets, averaging at least 10 assists per set for the fourth time this season and the second consecutive match. Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) was a stalwart along the net, ending the match with a program-record 10 total blocks.

Bloomsburg was locked in defensively for the entire match, finishing with a season-high 90 digs and holding Millersville to under a .100 hitting percentage in PSAC play for the first time this season.

How It Happened:
The night began dramatically with the longest single set in team history at 38-36 in favor of the Huskies. Both sides fought valiantly to capture the early momentum. In total, the first set had 24 ties and 15 lead changes.

Up 24-22 in the first set following a Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) kill, Bloomsburg looked to close out the set, but the Marauders fought back to eventually take a 25-24 lead, starting a chain of ties and lead changes between the teams.

After an error from Millersville evened the set at 36-36, Bopp came through with a clutch solo block before Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) sealed the first frame with her 10th kill of the opener.

The Marauders answered the contentious win in set one by taking the second frame to even the match at 1-1. After going up three following a kill from Bopp, Millersville evened the second set at 19-19 with a 3-0 run before capitalizing on another 3-0 run for a 22-20 advantage. Bloomsburg looked to reduce the margin but could not before a 25-22 final in the second.

The Huskies' determination shined in the third set. Down 20-19, Bloomsburg went on a 6-0 run to grab a 2-1 advantage in the match. After kills from Adelman and Bopp, a timeout from the Marauders was not enough to halt the ensuing push. A kill from Johnson and another emphatic solo block from Bopp provided the Huskies the edge.

Bloomsburg clinched Saturday's contest by hitting .391 in the fourth set. Conversely, the Marauders hit a night-worst .030 in the final frame as the visitors hit a combined .036 in the last two sets.

Up 6-4, Bloomsburg used an early 4-0 run to grab a six-point advantage. A sequence of kills from Dubosky, Johnson and Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) forced the Marauders into using an early timeout at 14-7. The Huskies closed out their senior night with a 5-1 run highlighted by a suffocating defense.

Johnson added to the team's defensive efforts with a career-high four total blocks as four Bloomsburg players recorded multiple service aces.

On The Horizon:
The Huskies are back at Nelson Field House on Tuesday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m., as they take on Wilmington in non-conference action.
