Volleyball Defeated By West Chester in Straight Sets

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball suffered a defeat in straight sets on the road at West Chester Friday evening.

The Huskies fall to 8-18 on the season with a 4-9 record against PSAC East opposition. With the victory, the Golden Rams improve to 12-14 overall and 4-9 in conference play.
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) led Bloomsburg in the match with eight kills as Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) recorded six kills while hitting .364 to go with a team-high two blocks on the night.

How It Happened:
Unforced errors hindered the Huskies' performance to open the match, dropping the first set to the Golden Rams, 25-20. Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) opened the contest with her 39th service ace of the season and fell into an early 10-4 hole in set one.

Several contributors, led by a pair of kills from Bopp, cut the deficit to three at 12-15, but three consecutive errors from Bloomsburg halted the positive momentum. The Huskies continued to fight deep into the opening frame, with a combo block from Adelman and Bopp reducing the West Chester advantage to three, but the home side ultimately grabbed early control of the match.

The two sides began the second set trading a pair of sideouts before the home side rallied behind mistakes from the Huskies to jump out an 11-point edge at 19-8. Warfel was the one spark of the Huskies' offense in the second set, finishing with four kills. Bloomsburg rattled off a 3-0 run to cut the Golden Ram's lead to eight before West Chester closed the set to claim a 2-0 lead.

With the match on the line, the Huskies rallied to take a 5-2 lead in the third set. Hannah Au (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) helped spark the 5-0 run with an ace as Bopp and Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) each had a kill. The Golden Rams fought back into the set to force a 9-9 tie and jumped out to a 15-11 lead.

Bloomsburg fell into a six-point deficit at 23-17 deep into the third but remained resilient in search of a comeback effort. Bopp rattled off a pair of kills in a 5-0 run from the Huskies to make it 23-22 but did not have enough to prevent West Chester from taking the match in straight sets.

With two service aces on the night, sophomore Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) moved into a tie for the most aces in a single season with 44, while Adelman sits solely in third at 39.

On The Horizon:
The Huskies wrap up the regular season on Saturday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. against Millersville.
