LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Bloomsburg men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 2-0 victory on the road against Georgian Court Friday afternoon.
The Huskies dominated on both ends of the court in preparation for their run in the PSAC Tournament. Bloomsburg held a 20-3 advantage in shots on the day that displayed the prominence in the attacking end.
The Huskies improve to 10-3-4 on the season, marking the first back-to-back 10-win seasons in program history since 2014-2015. With the results of Friday's fixtures, Bloomsburg clinched the No. 2 seed in the PSAC East and is in the conference tournament in consecutive seasons for the third time in team history.
How It Happened:
The Huskies were on the attack from the jump, with
Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) generating the first offensive attempt with a blocked shot just outside the two-minute. Bloomsburg kept the pressure on Georgian Court (5-8-4) in the following minutes, drawing a pair of corners while
Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) had several opportunities at net.
Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon) had the next opportunity for the Huskies as he stepped up for a free kick as the senior forward put the ball high and right. The two sides would go back and forth, with Bloomsburg continuing to get the better of the home side.
Ames found the first goal of the match for the Huskies with some tremendous link-up play down the left wing. Hollis got the first touch on the ball as he lofted a ball that found
Owen Hollobaugh (State College, Pa./State College). The freshman found Ames, who cut inside and eventually scored off a volley to grab a 1-0 lead.
Bloomsburg found itself a golden opportunity to double its advantage on a penalty kick, but Fabio Krissler stopped
Alex Wilsterman's (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) attempt for the Lions. The Huskies continued to play to their strengths in search of a second goal but settled for a one-goal edge heading into the break.
Looking to maintain momentum, Bloomsburg continued to press for a second goal coming out of halftime. The Huskies had four shots from a slew of different chances to grow their lead.
Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) came up clutch for Bloomsburg with back-to-back saves off low attempts around the 58-minute mark to keep the Huskies on top. The defensive fortitude turned into up-tempo attacking play in transition as Bloomsburg parlayed its stout work into more offensive opportunities. Ames was the first to force a save out of Krissler in the second half, while
Kody Besser (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) had several headed attempts denied.
The Huskies got their breakthrough goal off what has become a signature throw-in routine.
Teagan Wallace (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) stood along the far sideline and launched a ball into the box that connected with Besser. The defender nodded the ball to
Collis Heleine (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) at the back post, who tucked the ball into the bottom left corner to put the game away.
On The Horizon:
Bloomsburg turns its attention to postseason play as the Huskies will host West Chester on Monday, November 6, at 5:00 p.m. for the opening round of the PSAC Tournament.
