Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg men's basketball team came up short against Pitt-Johnstown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Monday night, 91-60.

Graduate forward Jake Nelson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) scored the opening basket for Bloomsburg (2-7, 0-3 PSAC), though Pitt-Johnstown (3-6, 1-2) pulled ahead with an early lead.

The Huskies found themselves down by 18 just over halfway through the frame before a jumper from Raphael Castillo (Newark, N.J./Morristown Beard) ignited a 22-9 run for the maroon and gold. A buzzer-beating layup from Ryan Smith gave the Mountain Cats a nine-point advantage heading into halftime.

The Huskies shot 14-for-30 from the floor, as Castillo drained four of his five attempts in the opening half.

UPJ continued pressure in the second half, holding the Huskies to a 37.5 shooting percentage (12-for-32). Pitt-Johnstown shot 18-for-39 in the half.

Three-point shooting proved to be the difference, as the Mountain Cats nailed 9-of-23 from beyond the arc.

Nelson finished one rebound shy of a double-double, posting the team-lead in points (13) and rebounds (9).

DJ Gordon (Pittsburgh, Pa./First Love Christian Academy) recorded six points, six assists and two blocks in the contest.

Jagger Dressler (Danville, Pa./Danville) led in scoring off the bench, going perfect from the floor for seven points.

The Huskies continue their western PA road trip on Tuesday, December 19 as they take on the defending PSAC champions, IUP, at 7:30 p.m.
