Five Huskies Earn CSC Academic All-District Football Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five members of the Bloomsburg football team earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors, as announced by the CSC Tuesday afternoon. The five Huskies matches the program-high total from 2022. This year, Owen Anderson (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and Cobe Frycklund (Lehighton, Pa./Jim Thorpe) were repeat honorees, while Kevin Carrigan (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), Brady Thompson (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Kenny Yurkonis (Minersville, Pa./Minersville Area) earned the honor for the first time.
 
Anderson is a junior accounting major from Cogan Station, Pa. and played in all 11 games for the Huskies this season. He had a career-year with 24 catches and 244 yard while hauling down a career-long 62-yard pass. Anderson averaged 10.2 yards per catch and 22.4 yards per game in a run-heavy offense. Anderson had a tackle on special teams as well. He is a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete and a D2 ADA Scholar-Athlete, as well.
 
Carrigan is a first-time CSC Academic All-District honoree from Warrington, Pa. and is a business management major. He played in all 11 games for the Huskies this season and split time between punting and kick-off duties. Carrigan also went 2-for-3 on field goals with a long of 21 yards. He had 2,320 kickoff yards on 38 attempts. He averaged 61.1 yards per kick off and posted six touchbacks. Carrigan also punted 30 times for 1,300 yards, including a long of 65 yards. He averaged 43.3 yards per punt, had four touchbacks, four fair catches, and placed nine punts inside the 20-yard line. He had seven punts of 50+ yards this season. Carrigan was named a PSAC Scholar-Athlete following the 2022-23 academic year.
 
Frycklund is a two-time CSC honoree and is an exercise science major from Lehighton, Pa. Frycklund played in all 11 games for the Huskies this past season and made five tackles, including one tackle for a loss of two yards. Frycklund is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and a two-time D2 ADA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Thompson, a red-shirt freshman linebacker from Green Lane, Pa. is a first-time CSC honoree and a finance major at Bloomsburg. Thompson missed one game due to injury but played a vital role on the Huskies' defense this season. He had 67 total tackles, including 32 solo and 35 assisted stops. He had five TFL (11 yards) and record 0.5 sack for 2 yards. He had a pair of passes defended and forced one fumble. Thompson was fourth on the team in total tackles in his first season on the field after redshirting in 2022. He is a PSAC Scholar-Athlete as well.
 
Yurkonis rounds out the CSC Academic All-District honorees with his first honor and is a business administration and management major from Minersville, Pa. Yurkonis played in 10 games for the Huskies this season and had 31 total tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss of 16 yards and 1.0 sacks for 9 yards. In his career, he has played in 33 games and made 87 total tackles, including 11.5 TFL (58 yards) and 5.5 sacks (45 yards). Yurkonis is a PSAC and D2 ADA Scholar-Athlete as well.
 
The Huskies finished the season 3-8 under fourth-year head coach Frank Sheptock.

 
The 2023 Academic All-District® Football teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
 
The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages.
Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
 
First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024. The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are financially supported in part by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is financially supported in part through the NAIA governance structure.
