BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg lacrosse team didn't let cold weather stop their red-hot offense as the Huskies took down Jefferson, 17-13, in their season opener Saturday. For the second year in a row, the Huskies scored at least 16 goals in their season opener.

Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) got her final year with the Huskies off to a blazing start with her first five goal performance for Bloomsburg. Roberts' fifth goal of the game, a free position shot with 11:37 to go in the third quarter, proved to be the difference maker for the Huskies.

Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) had a stellar day for the Huskies as well in the season-opener as she finished with one goals and a game-high threes assists for four points. She won six draw controls and caused one turnover. Freshman
Julia Cote (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) made the most of her BU debut with a pair of goals and an assist while causing a turnover as well.
Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) finished the day with three goals and three draw controls while
Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and
Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) each had a pair of goals. Stoll added an assist and a team-best seven draw controls.

Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) found her way on the scoresheet with a goal and an assist while freshman
Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) score her first collegiate goal for the Huskies.

Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made three stops in the win for the Huskies while
Emily Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./St. Anthony's) got her first action in the cage for Bloomsburg.

Defensively,
Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) led the Huskies with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while
Kristen Lee (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) had a pair of CTs.

The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Cote, Stoll, and Knize in the first four minutes of play before Jefferson got on the board at the 6:14 mark. The Huskies closed out the first with back-to-back goals from Roberts and one from
Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) to take a 6-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of action.

Roberts opened the second quarter with her third of the game before Coye and Cote each found the back of the net for the 9-1 lead. The Rams put the pressure on the Huskies and rattled off five-straight goals to cut the lead to 9-6 with 4:17 to go in the first half.

Roberts halted the Rams' run with her fourth of the year at the 2:41 mark, and after Madison Caffrey's second goal of the game, Clauss and Griffin went back-to-back to give Bloomsburg a 12-7 lead at half time.

The Rams outscored the Huskies 4-3 in the third period but Coyle and Stoll both scored in the fourth to keep the Huskies on top, 17-13.

The Huskies return to action next Saturday when they host Lock Haven in non-conference action at Steph Pettit Stadium. Action is set to get underway at 11:00 am.
