MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team lost to Millersville during an away Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup by final score of 94-56 Saturday.
Millersville (14-8, 11-5 PSAC) shot the ball 53.4% (39-for-73) from the floor and knocked down 11 three-point field goals in order to pull away from Bloomsburg (1-19, 1-15 PSAC) for the double-digit win.
The Huskies were led in scoring by
Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic), who went 8-for-12 from the field and knocked down a triple to score a team-high 18 points.
Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) was the team's only other starter to finish with double figures as the sophomore guard had 10 points on five made field goals. Junior guard
Raphael Castillo (Newark, N.J./Morristown Beard) was a bright spot for the Huskies, scoring 10 points and recording three rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
For Millersville, Matt Dade led all scorers with 19 points and was 8-for-10 from the field to go along with eight rebounds. The team had three other players finish in double figures as Justin Nwosu (16 points), Day Waters (12 points) and Drew Stover (10 points) all scored at least 10 points.
Though the Huskies never held a lead, the team was able to keep it close for much of the first half and only trailed by one point after a Bengel layup made it a 16-15 contest with 11:23 left in the half. The tight battle continued and a jumper by
Ash Kemble (Myerstown, Pa./Fork Union Military Academy) kept it a one-possession game three minutes later after his bucket made the score 22-19 with eight and a half minutes to play. From there, however, Millersville would begin its run. After Kemble's score, the Marauders went on a 25-8 scoring run to close out the half and led 47-27 at the break.
The Marauders rode their momentum right into the second half and began the frame on a 14-4 scoring run to go up 61-31 six minutes in. Bloomsburg would try to climb back, but Millersville was able to continuously build to its lead until leading by a score of 94-56 at the final buzzer.
Bloomsburg will return to action with a home game against East Stroudsburg (17-5, 11-5 PSAC) on Monday, Feb. 6. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 PM inside the Nelson Field House.
