TAMPA, Fla. – The Bloomsburg softball team fell to the University of Tampa in an away doubleheader Monday evening.

The Huskies (4-8, 0-0 PSAC East) hung with the No. 3 Trojans (18-1, 6-0 SSC) in the first game, falling by just one run as Tampa was able to hang on for a 2-1 victory to remain undefeated at home this season. In the second game, the Trojans were able to pull away for a 10-0 win in five innings.

After three scoreless innings to begin the first game, Bloomsburg got out to an early lead when Jayla Bartholomew (Williamsport, Pa/Williamsport) had a single in a bases-loaded situation that allowed Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) to score from third. Tampa's Gwen McGinnis was able to pitch out of the jam though, having a strikeout, pop out and fielder's choice to get out of the inning with the score 1-0.

The Trojans would then answer in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally to take their first lead of the game. Tampa received RBI singles from Lauren Fantone and Alexa Russo to go up 2-1, which is where thing stayed for the remainder of the game. Bloomsburg did get a baserunner on second with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a fly out to left field ended the contest.
