Baseball Scores In Every Inning, Tops Clarion 15-7

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball team racked up 15 runs on 15 hits as they pulled away from Clarion for a 15-7 victory at Danny Litwhiler Field on Tuesday.

The Huskies (7-9, 2-4 PSAC East) homered three times and recorded a total of six extra-base hits from five different players as they beat the Golden Eagles (6-11, 0-0 PSAC West).

Brady Gibble (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, triple, two runs batted in and four runs scored. Dansby Keenan (Cleveland Heights, Oh./Benedictine) also homered and was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with three RBI's and three runs scored. Anthony Viggiano (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) was the third Husky to homer, and Tyler Wiik (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and Carter Chasanov (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) both doubled to give Bloomsburg its six extra-base hits.

Clarion scored the first runs of the ballgame in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run by Scott McManamon, but from that point forward, the game belonged to the Huskies. Bloomsburg responded in the bottom of the first inning with Gibble's solo home run to right field, then the Huskies proceeded to score in every inning to pull away for the victory.

Bloomsburg took its first lead of the contest in the second inning when Eli Riley (Harrisburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) had a two-run single that scored Keenan and Chasanov to make it a 3-2 game. The Huskies then scored three runs in the third and fourth innings and added two more in the fifth to make it an 11-2 game. Both teams scored once in the sixth, then Bloomsburg scored three runs across the seventh and eighth innings to make it 15-3.

Clarion was able to get a little bit of a two-out rally going in the top of the ninth by scoring four runs during their final chance at the plate, but a fly out ended the game.

Freshman pitcher Will Dean (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) picked up his first win of the season after starting the contest and throwing three strong innings. The right-hander struck out two and allowed one earned run on two hits. Clarion's Logan Schlegel was given his first loss of the year as the Huskies were able to put up nine runs on nine hits during the starter's 3.2 innings on the mound.

Bloomsburg's 15 hits came from six different players, and all six players had multi-hit games. Chasanov had a team-high four hits on the day and scored three times and Kennan had three hits. Riley, Gibble, Viggiano and Wiik all had two hits apiece.

The Huskies  combined to throw seven different pitchers on the day, Dean pacing the rotation with his three innings on the mound. Brandon Walters (York, Pa./Central York), Cole Coolbaugh (Wyoming, Pa./Wyoming Area), Nick Heubel (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Casey Fitzsimmons (Burlington, N.J./Holy Cross) combined to throw 4.1 scoreless innings in relief. Dylan Lubinski (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) and Jacob Kuperavage (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) also had strong outings for the pitching staff and helped the Huskies hang on for the victory.

The baseball team is scheduled to play its next game on Thursday at Shepherd. The contest is a single game that is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM.
