Bloomsburg Splits Doubleheader with Jefferson

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg softball team split their non-conference doubleheader with Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon, moving to 13-21 on the season.

The Huskies dropped the opening match of the day by a score of 5-4. On the mound, Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) battled hard for the Huskies, earning five strikeouts on the day.

The Husky offense struggled early but found a groove late in the contest. Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) homered in the bottom of the seventh to bring the Huskies within one run of tying it, but it just wasn't enough. The Huskies had three players finish with an RBI, as Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and Jayla Bartholomew (Williamsport, Pa/Williamsport) joined Iseminger with an RBI of their own in the opening contest.

Mia Nemeth (Drums, Pa/Marian Catholic) finished 2-for-3 with a double and Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) threw in a double of her own as the Huskies fell by a single run in the opening slate.

The second a matchup of the day was a different story for the Huskies, who rode an incredible performance from Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) on the pitching mound. Sowers finished the contest with 15 strikeouts and eight hits allowed through all seven innings pitched.

The Huskies found themselves down one run early. Now in the bottom of the second, a series of consecutive hits from Nemeth, Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville), and Faith Persing (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) had the bases loaded for the Huskies. Lenner answered the call the very next play with a double, earning two RBIs on the play. Not two plays later after Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) was walked, the bases were loaded again, as Iseminger hit a timely double of her own. Just like that the Huskies found themselves up 5-1 heading into the third.

The Huskies would put up one more run just an inning later on a single from Welsh. Seven Huskies finished with a hit, three with an RBI, and three with a double as Bloomsburg came away with the win in the latter half of their doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Bloomsburg softball team gets right back in action again tomorrow afternoon as they host Kutztown for another home doubleheader. Opening pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
