WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg softball team fell to West Chester in both games of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (17-29, 11-15 PSAC East) fell in the first game by a final score of 8-0 in five innings, then the Golden Rams (34-13, 22-4 PSAC East) took the second game by winning the contest 10-1 in five innings.
In the first game, West Chester used a big six-run fourth inning to get control of the contest. Leading by one entering the frame, the Golden Rams scored their six runs on four RBI singles. West Chester then ended the game in the fifth inning by scoring its eighth run on a sacrifice fly.
The Huskies were held to just one hit in the contest as Danielle Ciliberto picked up her 13
th win of the year for West Chester.
Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) was charged with the loss and threw 3.1 innings for Bloomsburg.
The second game began with the Huskies taking an early lead after
Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) hit a sacrifice fly that allowed
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) to score after she fouled out to the catcher. West Chester immediately responded with two runs in the bottom half though, scoring runs on an RBI triple and single to take a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Rams then took a comfortable lead after scoring four runs in the second inning, and after they added one insurance run in the third, the team scored three more in the fourth to make it a 10-1 game. Pitching by both teams then kept the score at 10-1 until the fifth, which is where things ended.
Makenzie Edwards picked up her eighth win in the circle for West Chester, and
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) was given the loss after starting the game and going two innings for Bloomsburg.
Lyndsey Reinoehl (Shenandoah Heights, Pa./Marian Catholic) also pitched two innings for the Huskies.
At the plate, Lenner was 1-for-2 with one run scored.
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) was 1-for-1 while
Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) both went 1-for-2 with a pair of singles.
The softball team will be back in action with a home doubleheader on Tuesday against East Stroudsburg. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at Jan M. Hutchinson Field.
