BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's softball team fell to West Chester in two tightly-contested conference matchups on Monday afternoon. The Huskies battled hard all day, dropping both games by no more than two runs.
The team's first loss of the day came on the heels of a solid performance from
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area). Sowers finished the contest with seven strikeouts and kept the Huskies in it until the end. The Golden Rams got on the board halfway through the contest after a series of impressive hits from Katelyn Rittenbaugh and Grace Aguilar. Rittenbaugh started the action with a single to center field, quickly followed by a double to the left field side from Aguilar. The Golden Rams scored on the following play and were up 1-0 at the top of the third.
The Huskies kept it close and finished the opening contest with four hits as they fell 2-0.
The second contest of the day was a thriller from start to finish. The Husky offense got into a rhythm early on thanks to a first-inning homer from
Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area), her third of the season.
Sage Weidlich (Pittston, Pa./Pittston) and
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) both had a great day at the plate, each of them finishing 3-for-4.
Jayla Bartholomew (Williamsport, Pa/Williamsport) led the Huskies with two RBIs and Weidlich's lone RBI put the Huskies up 5-2 with one inning to go.
Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) got the start on the mound for the Huskies and finished with four strikeouts, but the Golden Rams were resilient as they mounted an impressive comeback to win 6-5.
The Huskies get right back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Lock Haven for another home doubleheader. Opening pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
