SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg men's tennis team stayed the playoff hunt as the Huskies swept its weekend matches. Bloomsburg defeated Frostburg 5-2 on Friday in non-conference action before picking up a key 4-3 win over Shepherd in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday. The Huskies are currently tied for the fourth seed with Kutztown and hold the tie breaker.

Bloomsburg 5, Frostburg 2 (April 7)

The Huskies jumped out to 1-0 match lead after securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School) and
Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) rolled to a 6-2 win at No. 2 while
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) and
Arnav Sharma (Haryana,India/Suncity School) worked a 7-6 win at No. 3.

Wiesemann went on to win 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles while Redmond picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4. Barros earned his second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and
Iu Casamitjana (Igualada, Spain/Escola Pia Igualada) came from behind to win 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 at No. 3 singles and compete the match win for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg 4, Shepherd 3 (April 8)

In a potential must-win match for the Huskies, the singles play came through clutch for Bloomsburg.

The Rams took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 while Wiesemann and Sharma won at No. 3 to avoid the sweep.

Shepherd took a 3-0 match lead with a 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles and a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

At No. 3 singles,
Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones) went down 6-0 in the first set and the Rams looked to secure the fourth and deciding point. Martinez came back to win 6-4 in the second set before completing his comeback win with a 6-2 win in the third set to get the Huskies on the board.

Redmond cut the match lead to 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and Wiesemann tied the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5. Sharma completed the win for the Huskies with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

The Huskies close out their regular season PSAC schedule on Wednesday when they host West Chester at 4:00 p.m. at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The top four seeds in the PSAC standings earn a sport in the conference tournament and the Huskies are currently tied for fourth. West Chester is the No. 6 seed currently with a 1-2 PSAC record. Bloomsburg is tied with Kutztown with a 2-3 conference record but defeated the Golden Bears 6-1 earlier this spring.
