QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – An RBI double by
Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) in the top of the eighth inning lifted the Bloomsburg softball team to a 6-5 win over No. 1 seed (East) West Chester in its second game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Softball Championships Wednesday afternoon.
The Huskies (23-31) trailed early on before mounting a comeback on the Golden Rams (36-16), then Iseminger capped off the team's clutch play down the stretch with her go-ahead double.
Trailing 4-0 entering the fourth,
Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) got the bats going for the Huskies with a three-run home run to bring Bloomsburg back within one. West Chester was able to get one run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Huskies scored two more in the top of the sixth to knot the game up at 5-5.
Bloomsburg's two-run sixth inning was a result of
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) knocking in two runs on a base hit up the middle. The freshman's two-run base knock allowed Iseminger and
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) to score on the play.
Following a scoreless seventh inning, Bloomsburg was able to get a runner into scoring position in the top of the eighth with one out after Little walked and advanced to second when the passed ball bounced out of play.
Kammy Kropinski (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh), who pinch ran for Little, scored the go-ahead run during the next at-bat on Iseminger's double.
In the bottom of the eighth, West Chester was able to get a runner into scoring position with two outs following a single and ground out, but sophomore pitcher
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) struck out Haleigh Karcher to end the game.
Sowers pitched four scoreless innings in relief and allowed just two hits to pick up her 15
th victory on the season. The right-hander also recorded five strikeouts to bring her season total to 234, which leads the entire PSAC.
Bloomsburg's
Lillian Gray (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) earned the start in the circle, and
Lyndsey Reinoehl (Shenandoah Heights, Pa./Marian Catholic) pitched three innings in relief.
At the plate, Iseminger went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one run scored and one run batted in. Sage Wedlich also doubled and went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Little added the team's fourth extra-base hit with her three-run homer. Culp, Kranzley and
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) all singled to bring the team's hit total eight.
The Huskies will advance to play Kutztown (29-22) on Thursday in the double-elimination tournament. The contest is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM on Field 4 at Veterans Park in Quakertown.
The winner of Thursday's game will automatically advance to 10:00 AM game on Friday. The loser will play at 3:00 PM on Thursday in an elimination game.
