Bloomsburg Athletics Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg athletic department announced today the six new inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame, which will take place on Sunday, October 15, as part of the Homecoming and Parents & Supporters Weekend festivities. This group marks the 41st Athletic Hall of Fame class and, with the addition of six individuals, brings the number of members enshrined to 208.

The members of the 2023 Hall of Fame Class are Lindy (Altadonna) McKinney '99 (Women's Lacrosse), Amber (Hackenberg) Brosius '08 (Women's Track & Field/Cross Country), Bill Paule '65 (Wrestling), Franklyn Quiteh '13 (Football), Tracy Wirth '00 (Women's Soccer), and Sheila (Zilinski) Hughes '04/'06M (Field Hockey/Lacrosse).

Lindy (Altadonna) McKinney '99
Women's Lacrosse

Lindy (Altadonna) McKinney is one of the most decorated defenders for the Bloomsburg lacrosse team. She helped the Huskies to back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) runner-up finishes during her junior and senior seasons.

During her career, McKinney collected several All-American honors from the United States Women's Lacrosse Association (USWLA) and the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). As a defender, she was a three-time First Team All-American by both organizations following the 1997, 1998, and 1999 seasons. McKinney was a three-time First Team All-PSAC Defender during that season as well.

McKinney finished her career with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points as one of the nation's top defenders. She was a team co-captain in her senior season. She was a shutdown defender who was consistently blanketing the opponents' top-scoring threat.

The Huskies compiled a 28-24 record during her four years on the field and posted an 11-11 record in PSAC contests. Bloomsburg finished with a winning record in three of her four seasons and made a trip to the PSAC championship game in back-to-back seasons.
 
Amber (Hackenberg) Brosius
Women's Cross Country and Track & Field

Amber (Hackenberg) Brosius was a standout cross country and track & field athlete at Bloomsburg for four years. Hackenberg joined the Huskies in the fall of 2004. She was the first women's cross country All-American and earned several Academic All-America, All-Region, and All-PSAC honors during her career.

Hackenberg earned All-American status on the cross country course during the 2007 season after finishing fifth overall and first for BU at the PSAC championship meet and sixth overall and was the first Husky finisher at the NCAA Regional. She finished 34th overall with a time of 21:45.0 to earn All-American status. Hackenberg earned All-Region honors during the 2004, 2005, and 2006 seasons with invites to the NCAA Championship in 2005 and 2007. She was All-PSAC all four seasons as a Husky.

During her track career, Hackenberg was a four-time All-PSAC performer between the indoor and outdoor seasons and qualified for the NCAA Championships three times during the 2005, 2007, and 2008 outdoor seasons. She earned All-PSAC honors in the 5,000-meter run three times between the indoor and outdoor seasons and was the 5K indoor champion in 2008. She earned her fourth All-PSAC honor in the indoor 3,000-meter run during the 2008 championships.

In 2008, Hackenberg qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000-meter run after setting the school record in the event at the Penn Relays. She took 17th overall in the Olympic Development race at 17:16.42.

Hackenberg was a three-time Bloomsburg Scholar-Athlete in the classroom and a five-time PSAC Top-10 honoree. She earned the accolades twice during the cross country season, twice during outdoor track, and once for indoor track & field. She is the only five-time PSAC Top-10 honoree for the Huskies.

Hackenberg was the Bloomsburg Joanne McComb Underclass Female Athlete of the Year following the 2004-05 athletic year. She was a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2008 and a Third Team AA in 2007. Hackenberg added USTFCCCA individual scholar-athlete five times and was a member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Women's Track & Field teams in 2006 and 2007.
 
Bill Paule '65
Wrestling

Bill Paule was a four-year varsity letter winner for the Bloomsburg wrestling program from 1961-65. Paule was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion and a PSAC runner-up twice. He finished as high as fourth in the NAIA National Tournament.

During his sophomore season in 1962-63, Paule was the PSAC champion at 157 points after posting a 9-4 record in dual matches. He finished fourth at 147 pounds at the NAIA National Tournament. Paule was a back-to-back PSAC champion after capturing the title again in 1963-64. That season he went 7-4 in dual matches.

Paule went 10-1-2 in dual matches during his senior season and finished second in the PSAC at 147 pounds. He capped his career as a Husky with a fourth-place finish at the NAIA Tournament. During the 1961-62 season, Paule went 5-3 in duals as a freshman and finished second overall at 147 pounds at the PSAC championships.

During his time at BU, the Huskies went 45-4-1 in dual meets.
 
Franklyn Quiteh '13
Football

Franklyn Quiteh graduated as the decorated running back and one of the most decorated student-athletes in Bloomsburg University football history. He was the top back in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and NCAA DII during his four years as a Husky.

Quiteh's career culminated in receiving the Harlon Hill Award following his 2013 campaign, and he finished third in the vote following the 2012 season. The Harlon Hill represents the top player in the nation in DII football. In 2013, Quiteh led the country in yards rushing (2,195), rushing touchdowns (29), scoring (15.7 ppg), and yards per carry (8.3). He moved into second place all-time in Division II history with 7,523 rushing yards, easily surpassing the former PSAC career record. Quiteh holds 13 school records, five conference records, and two NCAA records after becoming the only player in D-II history to top 2,000 yards rushing three times. During his career, he also broke the NCAA record for most games with 100 or more yards rushing with 42.

Quiteh has 14 All-America honors, including 13 First Team nods between the Daktronics, AP, D2Football.com, and Don Hensen's team from 2010-2013.

At the time of his graduation, Quiteh was the NCAA active leader among all divisions in career rushing yards, rushing yards per game (160.2), all-purpose yards (7,964), rushing touchdowns (87), total touchdowns (91), and total points (548) and was the DII leader in points per game (11.7).

Quiteh still holds the DII record for most 100-yard rushing games by a freshman (12 in 2010), most consecutive 100-yard rushing games (12), most seasons with 1,000+ rushing yards (4), and most seasons with 2,000+ rushing yards, and is still the only DII player with three. His 2,195 yards during the 2013 season still rank 14th all-time in DII, and he was the NCAA statistical champion in rushing yards three times – 2010, 2012, and 2013. His career 548 points rank sixth all-time in DII, and he was the NCAA statistical champion with 188 points in 2013. Quiteh is seventh all-time in DII with 7,964 all-purpose yards.

During the 2013 season, the Huskies were ranked as high as No. 5 in the AFCA top-25 poll, won their first PSAC championship in 2013 since 1985, and ranked fifth in DII in team rushing offense, averaging 317.6 yards per game on the ground. The Huskies surpassed the previous school record of 315.8, set in 2012 behind Quiteh's leadership. The Huskies broke the school record for games with over 350 yards rushing as a team in a single season, accomplishing the feat six times. Bloomsburg has surpassed 350 yards rushing as a team vs. Stonehill (457), Lock Haven (409), East Stroudsburg (389), Edinboro (383), Slippery Rock (360), and Gannon (351) in 2013.

In his four years on the gridiron, the Huskies went 39-9, were the PSAC East champion twice, and advanced to the NCAA DII national tournament three times.

Since graduation, Quiteh spent time coaching high school and leading the running back group while also training other athletes. He currently leads a business development team through the initiative of modernizing the automotive industry through a series of SaaS software and applications. When not participating in recreational sports a few times a week, Quiteh spends most of his time with his wife, Kate, and son, Maverick, and his French Bulldog, Bentley.
 
Captain Tracy "Trey" Wirth '99
Women's Soccer

Captain Wirth was a vital member of the early success of the Bloomsburg women's soccer program during a four-year stint with the Huskies from 1995-1998. As a goalkeeper, Wirth was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) selection.

Wirth is among only two goalkeepers in program history to earn multiple All-American honors. Wirth was a Second Team National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) following the 1997 season and earned First Team All-America accolades after the 1998 campaign. Wirth landed a spot on the All-PSAC first team as a keeper in 1997 and 1998 and earned second-team honors in 1996.

During Wirth's career, Wirth posted 20 total shutouts, the fourth most in school history, and had a 0.70 goals against average – allowing just 36 goals in 4.538 minutes. Wirth's GAA stood as the program record until 2019. Wirth's 36 career goals allowed stands as the program's career record for the fewest goals allowed. Wirth posted the sixth-most shutouts in a season with 10 during the 1998 All-America campaign. Wirth's goals-against average of 0.52 in 1998 is the second lowest in school history.

Following Wirth's successful career on the pitch, Wirth served as the Huskies' assistant coach for one season under the late Sandy Dickson, one of Wirth's great mentors and friends.

Following graduation, Wirth joined the United States Coast Guard and was recently promoted to Captain (CAPT). CAPT Wirth currently oversees the Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC, and has spent 23 years in high operational tempo All-Hazard incident management and crisis management roles specializing in Marine Environmental Response, Search and Rescue, and Emergency Management.

CAPT Wirth has responded to major disasters, which include the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, Super Storm SANDY, Paulsboro, NJ Train Derailment, two DoD helicopter crashes in Honolulu, HI, and Hurricanes ISABEL, MARIA, FLORENCE, and DORIAN.

CAPT Wirth is an extremely passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion and recently came out publicly as transgender in 2021. CAPT Wirth is currently the highest-ranking transgender member in the U.S. Coast Guard, working extensively to educate and inform the leadership of LGBTQ+ service. CAPT Wirth is a Chapter Leader for SPARTA, a non-profit that advocates and educates for transgender military service, and Senior Advisor to CG Spectrum, a U.S. Coast Guard affinity group designed to advocate for LGBTQ+ issues within the service and work with leadership to educate and inform policy.
 
Sheila (Zilinski) Hughes '04/06
Field Hockey/Women's Lacrosse

Sheila (Zilinski) Hughes was an exceptional Bloomsburg field hockey program member for four seasons, leading the Huskies to two-straight NCAA National Championships and back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships.

During her career, Hughes collected several National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American and PSAC honors. During her field hockey career, she was a two-time NFHCA First Team All-American and First Team All-PSAC forward. On the lacrosse field, Hughes was a three-time IWLCA All-American midfielder and a four-time All-PSAC honoree. She earned a spot on the first team during her junior and senior seasons and was a second-team honoree during her freshman and sophomore campaigns.

Following the 2002 field hockey season, Hughes was named the PSAC Athlete of the Year and the NFHCA National Player of the Year. Hughes garnered a pair of honors from the Bloomsburg athletic department as she was named the Joanne McComb Underclass Female Athlete of the Year in the spring of 2003 following her junior season. At the end of her standout 2002 season, Hughes was a finalist for the Honda Sport Award for field hockey. She capped her career with the Eleanor Wray Senior Female Athlete of the Year honor in 2004. She was a two-time PSAC Top-10 Award honoree during her time at Bloomsburg, in 2002 and 2003.

Hughes is still ranked tied for ninth on the school's all-time list in career goals (48), tied for eighth in career assists (26), and eighth in career points (120). During her PSAC and National Athlete of the Year season, Hughes led the Huskies with 14 goals and finished second on the team with eight assists. She scored twice in the National Championship game and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team in 2002.

The Huskies compiled a record of 73-8 during her time as a player, including a perfect 21-0 record in 2002. The back-to-back National Championships in 2002 and 2003 kicked off four-straight appearances in the national title game and three-straight championships.

Hughes led the lacrosse team with 55 goals during her senior season 2005 and is currently ranked fourth all-time at Bloomsburg with 173 career goals, fourth with 213 career points, and 15th with 40 career assists.

The Huskies won the PSAC title during the 2003 season and finished as an NCAA semifinalist. Bloomsburg finished as the PSAC runner's up in her three other seasons. The Huskies compiled a 54-21 overall record and went 27-9 in PSAC contests during her career.  

Hughes spent seven of her eight seasons between field hockey and lacrosse on the field with her twin sister, Marcie (Zilinski) Ackell, a fellow Bloomsburg alumni.

Following the completion of her Masters degree at Bloomsburg, Sheila went on to pursue a position as a middle school and elementary special education teacher in the Harrisburg area. She received her Principal and Supervisory of Special Education Certificates from Shippensburg University and progressed from teacher into a leadership position as an elementary assistant principal (2011-2013). For the last ten years, Sheila has held the position as an elementary principal in the Red Lion Area School District. Sheila is currently working on her Doctorate of Education (EdD) at Immaculata University expected to be awarded in 2024. She resides in Red Lion with her husband, John (a Shippensburg University standout swimmer, All American, and record holder) and their daughters, Reagan (7) and Reese (6). In her free time, Sheila enjoys camping and traveling with her family as well as coaching or supporting her children at their extracurricular activities.
