BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Tyler J. Horst Memorial Foundation, with the support of the Bloomsburg athletic department, held a highly successful inaugural Tyler J. Horst Memorial 5K/1-Mile Walk last Sunday to benefit every Husky student-athlete.

The inaugural run was held at Pettit Athletic Complex on the campus of Bloomsburg. The 5K run began and finished at Redman Stadium and went through the upper campus, while the 1-mile walk was on the track around Danny Hale Field. In Tyler's memory, the race brought the community together while raising funds for the Tyler Horst Nutritional Center. Between race participants and donations, and an added donation from the Tyler J. Horst Foundation, the event raised $5,000 for the Nutritional Center, located inside Nelson Field House.

Named for Tyler Horst, the Nutritional Center will provide healthy food and beverage snack options for all Husky athletes to help them perform at the highest level.

As a member of the Bloomsburg football team until his tragic passing in 2020, Tyler excelled on the field and in the classroom and impacted the lives of everyone around him.

His legacy of caring and compassion continues today through the Tyler Horst Nutritional Center. The center is located in Nelson Field House and is available to all Huskies student-athletes.

Prizes were awarded to the top three male and female finishers and the three Bloomsburg athletic teams with the most registered participants.

Finishing first on the women's side was Madison Baudille, followed by Melissa Sicinski and Yamilet Ferrufino, all from the women's track & field team. Peyton Riley was the overall winner for the men, followed by Ryan Duff and Matthew Carroll from the men's cross country team.

The Bloomsburg men's and women's swimming teams had the highest number of participants, while the wrestling and field hockey teams were second and third in the total number of runners/walkers registered for the event.

Scheduling for the Second Annual Tyler Horst Memorial 5K/1-Mile Walk is in progress to continue bringing the community and Bloomsburg athletics together to support the Husky student-athletes in Tyler's memory.

Gifts can be made here for those unable to attend the inaugural 5K or those wishing to support the Nutritional Center year-round.
