Wilmington, Del.  – The women's soccer team opened its 2023 campaign with a 0-0 draw in a non-conference matchup against Goldey-Beacom on Thursday afternoon.

The Huskies outshot the Lightning 19-3 in the contest, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Bloomsburg out-paced GBC 12-2 in shots in the second half with five shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net.

Goldey-Beacom (0-0-1) recorded the first shot of the game in the 8th minute, though graduate student
Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) came up with the save.

Bloomsburg (0-0-1) answered with its first shot in the 15th minute with an attempt from junior
Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) that was blocked. The Huskies first shot on goal came just over a minute later from redshirt-sophomore
Sydney Hoover (Davie, Fla./Western).

The maroon and gold held the Lightning without a shot for the remainder of the first half, as Bloomsburg took a 7-1 shot advantage into halftime.

The Huskies quickly went on the offensive to start the second half as senior
Lauren Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) put one on net just thirty seconds in. Bull posted each of her team-high five shots in the second half.

With under a minute remaining in the scoreless contest, Goldey-Beacom had the final chance to find the back of the net as the Lightnings' Lexy Yeager fired one on net, but Spingler came up big to post the clean sheet in the season opener.

Spingler finished the contest with three saves, while Nikki Cashin recorded eight for Goldey-Beacom.

The Huskies return to action Saturday as they travel to Mercyhurst for a non-conference matchup starting at 6:00 PM. Â
