Women's Tennis Sweeps Clarion Friday Afternoon

CLARION, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team opened team match play with a dominate 7-0 win over Clarion, Friday afternoon. The Huskies took the doubles point and swept the singles matches to improve to 1-0 on the year while the Eagles fell to 1-4.
 
After a default win at No. 3 doubles, the Huskies grabbed the doubles point with a 6-0 win for Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) and Anna Chikhalenko (Birmingham, Mich./Wylie F. Groves) at No. 1 doubles. Clarion avoided the sweep in doubles play with a win at No. 2 doubles.
 
"We played very patient and smart today," remarked head coach Rebecca Helt. "We had great energy for the whole match."
 
Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead with a default win at No. 6 singles before Dasha Nakonecha (Spain/IOC) gave the Huskies a 3-0 match lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Alese Rinker (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) clinched the win for the Huskies with a 6-0. 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.
 
Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area) pushed the Huskies' lead to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4. Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) battled in a strong No. 1 singles match and came out on top, 6-3, 6-3, before Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) closed out the win for Bloomsburg with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.
 
The Huskies are right back in action on Saturday, September 30 when Bloomsburg heads to Seton Hill for a 10:00 a.m. match and California (Pa.) for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
