FINDLAY, Ohio – The Bloomsburg volleyball team dropped its opening match, 3-0, at the Findlay Classic against hosts Findlay Thursday evening.Â
Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) led the Huskies (0-4) on the day with seven kills.
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) and
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) finished with six and four kills on the night.Â
How It Happened:Â
The Huskies showcased flashes of excellent play throughout the first set but could not piece enough together to make up for lost ground.
Antigua carried over a strong opening weekend performance to lead Bloomsburg with three kills after the first set.
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) and Dubosky each recorded a pair of kills to start the match, with Johnson adding a solo block in the process.
A kill from Antigua cut the Huskies' deficit to three at 18-21, but Findlay closed the set on a 4-0 run to claim the first set.
Bloomsburg jumped out to an early lead to begin the second set.
Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) continued her solid season from the service line with an ace to give the Huskies their only advantage of the set. From there, the Oilers (4-1) controlled much of the flow for the remainder of the second before closing it out 25-9.
The Huskies attempted to fight back from the hole in the third set but could not rally back into the contest.
Dubosky led Bloomsburg to an early 3-1 advantage in the night's final set, recording the first three kills for the Huskies. Bloomsburg lost the advantage after a 6-2 run from the Oilers made it an 8-11 match, but a 3-0 run in response evened things up at 11-11.
After a continued back-and-forth, Findlay went on a 7-0 run to put the match just out of reach, despite one final push from Bloomsburg that included aces from
Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) and
Livia Moore (Luzerne, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and kills from Johnson and Antigua before the Oilers shut the door on the comeback hopes.
Saalfrank (14) recorded double-digit digs for the third time this season, and Antigua (10) had 10-plus for the second time this year.Â
