Bengel recorded a career-high 31 points

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team fell short against No. 19/9 East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup inside the Nelson Field House on Wednesday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (4-13, 2-9 PSAC) closely battled East Stroudsburg (15-2, 9-2) for much of the early goings of the contest. The teams stayed within one possession of each other throughout the opening ten minutes.

The Huskies remained within ten points of the division's top-scoring offense for all but 77 seconds in the first half.

Despite several small runs by the maroon and gold to bring the contest within two scores, the Warriors held on for their 15th win of the season.

Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) dropped a career-high 31 points in the contest, the most points scored by a single player against ESU this season. Bengel went 14-for-20 in the game, setting a career-high for field goals made. The Erie native finished the game with five rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Jake Nelson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) recorded 15 points, making it the ninth game this season in which he has recorded at least 15 points and 13th game with at least 10.

After being honored pregame for reaching 1,000-career points, Travis Elmore (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) went 4-for-9 from the floor, finishing with 11 points.

Collectively, Bloomsburg went 34-for-65 from the floor. The 52.3 shooting percentage is the teams' fourth highest of the season and the highest against East Stroudsburg since January 8th, 2020.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday, January 27th, as they travel to West Virginia for a 3 p.m. contest with Shepherd.
