Men's Basketball Claims Victory over Shippensburg in Spirited Bout

Gordon drops career-high 28 points

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team took down Shippensburg, 85-76, in an energetic Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest inside Nelson Field House on Friday night.

Bloomsburg (3-10, 1-6 PSAC) and the reigning PSAC East champions battled in a tightly-contested first half. The only three-possession lead came with just one minute remaining in the frame as a DJ Gordon (Pittsburgh, Pa./First Love Christian Academy) jumper put the Huskies up 39-32.

A pair of three-pointers from Gordon helped to elevate the maroon and gold to a 39-34 lead at the half.

The Huskies offense exploded in the second half, amassing a 24-point lead at the halfway mark of the second frame.

Jake Nelson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) posted 11-straight points to start the second half, including a trio of baskets from beyond the arc.

Down 73-49, a Trey Martin triple swung the momentum back in Raiders' favor. A 25-2 run brought SU back into the game.

With Bloomsburg leading 75-74, free throws helped the Huskies to extended the lead as tensions rose in the dying minutes of the game.

A fastbreak-layup in the final seconds put a lid on the contest as the maroon and gold picked up an 85-76 victory over Shippensburg. This is the Huskies' first win over SU since February 22, 2020.

Gordon led the way for Bloomsburg, posting a career-high 28 points off the bench. The junior went 11-for-15 from the field, while going 3-for-4 from three-point territory. He also amassed eight rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

Nelson recorded his fifth double-double of the season, with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The graduate forward shot 9-of-17 from the floor.

Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) fell two assists short of a double-double, matching his career-high in assists with eight and dropping 12 points.

Overall, the Huskies shot 47.7 percent (31-for-65) from the floor. Bloomsburg hit 8-of-19 three-point attempts, including a 5-of-9 performance in the second half.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, January 10 as they travel to Mansfield for a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Mountaineers.
