#4 Field Hockey Downs Millersville, 2-1

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The No. 4-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team took down Millersville, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Lexy Freed (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) and Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) found the back of the net for Bloomsburg (12-4, 4-3 PSAC) as Bella Culp (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) recorded a pair of assists in the victory.

Millersville (7-7, 2-4) looked to open the scoring halfway through the first quarter as the Marauders' Emily Buss got a shot past Jackie Nevel (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick Area), but senior defender Meg Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) cleared the ball away for her third defensive save of the season.

Bloomsburg broke the deadlock early into the second quarter as Freed redirected a shot from Culp on a penalty corner.

The Huskies held off the Marauders offense for much of the quarter until Millersville's Caitlin Wassermann drove home her own rebound to knot the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Koch picked up her fifth of the season in highlight-reel fashion, receiving a pass from Culp, who sent the ball into the circle from midfield, before turning and firing a reverse shot into the top of the cage.

The fourth quarter saw Nevel record her fifth save of the contest as the maroon and gold held on for the win. Nevel now sits at 12-4 on the year.

The Huskies now sit tied for fourth in the PSAC with Kutztown at 4-3 in conference play.

Bloomsburg is back in action on Tuesday, October 29 as travel to No. 9-ranked Mansfield for a 4 p.m. matchup.
