#4 Field Hockey Falls to #2 Kutztown, 2-1

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The No. 4-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team dropped a close matchup with No. 2-ranked Kutztown, 2-1, at Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The early moments of the match saw a defensive stand-off, as Bloomsburg (10-3, 2-2 PSAC) and Kutztown (9-1, 3-0) were able to register a shot in the first half of the opening quarter.

Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) got the Huskies on the board in the eighth minute, making a move around a defender and depositing her third goal of the year into the back of the cage to put the maroon and gold ahead 1-0.

Bloomsburg recorded two more shots in the first quarter, including a shot from Kate Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) that was stopped by the Golden Bears' Mia Kepler.

Kutztown switched the momentum in the second quarter, outshooting the Huskies 3-1 in the frame. KU recorded its first shot on goal with just over a minute to play in the half.

The third frame saw an early string of four corners for Kutztown across two minutes of play. Bloomsburg blocked six-of-seven shot attempts in that span, while Jackie Nevel (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick Area) stopped the lone shot on net from the Golden Bears.

Kutztown leveled the score late in the third quarter as Grace Harrold found the back of the net for KU in the 42nd minute.

The Golden Bears began the fourth quarter much like the third, pressuring the Huskies early and often before finally breaking the deadlock in the 55th minute. Megan Doyle notched the game-winner for Kutztown.

The Golden Bears outshot Bloomsburg 19-4 in the contest.

The Huskies return to Steph Pettit Stadium on Saturday, October 12 as they host IUP on Homecoming at 11 a.m.
