Volleyball Sweeps Kutztown to Conclude 2024 Season

The Huskies honored Maura Uschock pregame for Senior Day.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team concluded its 2024 season with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-16) victory over Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match inside the Nelson Field House on Saturday afternoon.
 
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) set a new single-season kills record (329) for the Huskies, tallying eight kills on 30 total attacks. Elise Adelman's (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) 37 assists propelled her season total to 915, breaking her own school record of assists in a season.
 
Emily Gustie (Crofton, Md./Crofton) finished with a team-high 14 kills and just two attack errors. Gustie posted a .500 hitting percentage, falling short of the program record set by Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) (.579). Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) finished with 10 kills and a .375 hitting percentage in the contest.
 
Bloomsburg (9-18, 6-8 PSAC East) celebrated Maura Uschock (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) before the contest for Senior Day. The lone senior would go on to lead the team with three aces. Uschock ended her career with 67 aces, 594 digs  and 72 assists in 300 sets played.
 
The Huskies registered on of its best performances in team history, finishing with a .308 attack percentage. The maroon and gold notched 47 kills while hitting .609 in the third and .444 in the first.
 
Bloomsburg came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, with Johnson Adelman, Wales and Gustie each recording kills as Bloomsburg jumped to an early 8-2 lead over Kutztown (1-27, 0-14). After Kutztown gained a point back on what would be the Huskies only attack error of the set, the maroon and gold posted an 8-3 run to take a 16-6 advantage. Kutztown despite the best efforts of the Golden Bears the Huskies stayed on the gas and took the first set, 25-14. Bloomsburg recorded 17 of its 25 points in the set on kills.
 
The second set saw an early back-and-forth exchange before Kutztown capitalized on five straight errors to take an 8-5 lead. From there the Huskies posted a 10-2 run with three-straight kills from Gustie followed back back-to-back aces from Uschock to put Bloomsburg ahead 15-10. Kutztown slowly brought the game back to a 22-22 tie before Wales and Gustie combined for three kills to end the set, 25-23.
 
Kutztown and Bloomsburg battled back-and-forth in the early goings of the third set, with the maroon and gold taking 7-6 lead. A three-point swing for Bloomsburg gave them some distance before posting another 3-0 run just minutes later to go ahead 15-10. After a quick exchange, Gustie and Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) combined for three kills and Uschock registered her third ace to take a 20-12 lead. Johnson recorded the last three points for the Huskies as they took the third set, 25-16.
 
Bloomsburg finished the season with a 9-18 record under first-year Head Coach Lee Anderson and tallied a 6-8 record in PSAC competition.
