Women's Soccer Punches Ticket to PSAC Tournament in 1-1 Draw Against Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's soccer team punched its ticket to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament with a 1-1 draw against Shippensburg at David See Field on Saturday afternoon.

Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) posted her third goal of the season with assists from Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley).

Bloomsburg (9-4-5, 7-4-5 PSAC East) tallied 16 shots in the contest with eight shots on goal while holding Shippensburg (5-8-5, 5-6-5) to just six shots. Merklin recorded three saves in the contest.

Hondros found the back of the net on the Huskies' first shot of the contest, flicking the ball over the SU goaltender on her first touch. Merklin tallied the secondary assist on the play after sending a free kick from midfield to Foster, who headed the ball into the box for Hondros.

Bloomsburg tested the Raiders with two more shots on goal but couldn't extend its lead as the halftime horn sounded.

The second half saw Shippensburg earn a corner in the 58th minute, which saw a well-placed kick from Kaitlyn DiCandilo bounce off the outstretched hands of Marklin and onto the foot of Mia Kemp for the equalizer.

Bloomsburg continued to pressure the Raider's defense, firing seven shots throughout the remainder of the game.

The draw earns the Huskies the fourth seed in the Eastern Division, marking the ninth-consecutive PSAC tournament appearance for the maroon and gold under head coach Matt Haney.

Bloomsburg will travel to face the top team in the Eastern Division, Shepherd, in the PSAC Quarterfinals at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 12.
