Men's Basketball Downed at Home by Jefferson Sunday Afternoon

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team dropped its final non-conference matchup of the season to Jefferson, 78-67, inside the Nelson Field House on Sunday afternoon.
 
Kent Olewiler (York, Pa./William Penn) led Bloomsburg (1-9) in scoring with 14 points. The junior guard went 5-for-5 from the line while notching two assists and two rebounds. Jagger Dressler (Danville, Pa./Danville) went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor while going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The Danville-native finished with 11 points, two rebounds and two steals.
 
Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) got the Huskies on the board first with a driving layup before Jefferson (8-3) responded with a three-pointer to regain the lead early. The Rams pushed its lead to 16-9 through eight and a half minutes of play before the maroon and gold surged back with a 9-2 run to level the score at 18 apiece with nine minutes remaining in the half.
 
A three-pointer from Tony Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) at the 7:11-mark gave Bloomsburg the lead for the first time since the opening basket. Olewiler advanced the score to 23-20 after knocking down a pair of free throws.
 
Jefferson's Troy McGregor knocked down a three-pointer and pull-up jumper to regain the lead before Henderson responded to level the score again at 25-25.  A late surge from Jefferson gave the visitors a 35-29 lead heading into halftime.
 
Bloomsburg battled back-and-forth with the Rams in the opening five minute of the second half, keeping the rams within two possessions. Jefferson came out of a media timeout at the 15:26 minute mark firing, pushing its lead to 12 points with just over 12 minutes to play.
 
A nearly three-minute scoreless stretch took the clock down to 8:38 where George Sabatini (Mountain Top, Pa./Holy Redeemer) cut the Rams' lead to single digits with a pair of made free throws. Trailing 59-50 just over six minutes to play, Dressler drained his first three-pointer to pull the Huskies within six points.
 
Despite two more made three-pointers from Dressler, Bloomsburg fell to Jefferson, 78-67. The Huskies finished the scored half with 59.26 percent (16-for-27) shooting while going 4-for-8 from three-point territory.
 
The Huskies head on the road for its next contest as they face off against California, Pa. on Tuesday, December 17 at 5 p.m.
